Collector’s Editions

Ridan has been watching your response to the announcement of getting the books in print and they’re floating the idea of putting out a special, hard cover, limited edition run. The price will be pretty high (I don’t know how high yet, but I’d guess around $30-$35) but we’re thinking something like running 100 of them and putting them up as signed, numbered, limited editions.

How many of you would want to buy one of those?

  1. Rob says:

I would certainly buy a copy. My whole family are now enjoying the audiobooks, but to have a signed hardcover would be great.

  2. Stan says:

I’d buy the series in a minute for myself. It would be a stretch, but I’d love to buy the set for each of my four son’s families (10 grandkids and counting). I put the quality of your stories with the Narnia tales that I’ve already bought for them.

Keep on doing the fantastic job that you do.

  3. Adam says:

Right next to my signed Siglers, Murs, and Asimov And Pratchet!

  4. Dan J says:

If I get re-employed before they come out I’d definitely buy a collector’s edition but as it is I’m also holding back on new podiobook donations till I get a job (I’ve donated for your older podiobooks but not yet for Ravenwood though it is certainly deserving).

  5. Kevin Brown says:

I would love one. Please sign me up!

  6. Rob Wagner says:

I would love to have a copy of my own as well. Count me in!

  7. Martin Beal says:

I would like to order a copy. Will you ship them to Australia? Keep your great stories coming!!!!

  8. Reluctant Warrior says:

Ooooh definitely. . . this writing is unquestionably worth special edition hardcovers. Count me in!

  9. Feasgar says:

Oh yes please. One to Scotland please.

  10. I would like a copy please

  11. Ghostryda says:

Count me in for a set of hardcovers!
mmm could they have a little pouch at the back, so I can store my disc with the audio files on it? :)

  12. Mchael S. says:

The thought of having a signed copy of my favorite novel simply makes my day! Count me in!

  13. Linda Mandlebaum says:

I’d like at least two. I can hardly wait to have Nathan’s books in my hands.

  14. y. baseke says:

I am more interested in the Special Edition, regardless of price than the paperback.
As a side note, I discovered podiobooks about 2 years ago, but for some reasons always skipped your share series (shorter that GAOTSC). I picked up quarter share 5 days ago and will be done with Captain Share today. If it seems like nothing, I will add that I have a full time job, a pregnant wife and 4 children. The scene at chez Henri is a masterful piece of writing that had me grinning in public to the dismay of the young lady sitting across from me. You are an exceptional writer and you’ve made my pantheon of masters. More! please? …Sir!

  15. Nate says:

    Thanks, Y.

There will be more. In the meantime, don’t forget South Coast and Ravenwood. :D

  16. Stephen K says:

    This is gonna be AWESOME!!!

  17. Bruce says:

I’ll take one. And I’m hoping my wife isn’t watching the blog for a while so I could give it to her as a surprise!

Just to help you plan – my default would be one, but if you went with a much larger order and got stuck with some extras you couldn’t sell, I’d be willing to pitch in and purchase 1-2 more – could definitely find people for whom to give as gifts.

My personal take is that of your podcast audience who wants a book, a very high percentage would be interested in the collector’s edition unless they’re just really strapped for cash. After all, we’ve got you on audio so we don’t “need” the book – we just want to have something tangible to look great on our bookshelves and coffee tables. And so we really want the nice version.

  18. George says:

A signed copy of one of the great science fiction writers of our time. Heck yea I want a signed copy.

  19. Stephen K says:

I’d also be looking at these as gifts as well. With podcast novels I’ll usually grab 1 for me and then 3 or 4 more (Hardbacks always) as gifts for my good friends. It allows me to support the work of great folks like yourself and also hook more people into podcast fiction :D

  20. Cliff K says:

For the last week I’ve been wondering if there would be signed copies of your first print. Count me in with extreme enthusiasm. I would buy any and all of your books no matter what, but if I could get them signed as well then put me in the front of the line!! :)

  21. Brandon Campbell says:

I would also buy a collectors edition.

  22. Martin Havrilak says:

  25. Kenn Mack says:

With bells on my toes, I would buy them in a heartbeat.

  26. martinimnetz says:

Count me in! I’d love a signed and numbered copy. I love the series (and South Coast and Ravenwood :-)) and will be happy to support your success!

  27. Aaron Aichlmayr says:

    YES PLEASE

  28. Josh Wold says:

Of course! I would be thrilled to have a hardcover copy of the book. This is an amazing idea!

  29. Duncan says:

Count me in for one. Are you planning on releasing hard cover editions of the other books as well?

  30. Nate says:

Yes. This looks like something that people want, so we’ll probably pick a number (like 250 or 500) and offer them all in the same limited edition, signed and numbered hard-copy.

  31. Duncan says:

Will I be able to order the special edition hard cover from my local book store or will I have to order on line?

  32. Nate says:

You’ll be able to special order it through your local bookstore, I believe.

  33. Louise Later aka Louise Nicholson says:

I’d LOVE a hardback copy. SOO good to take along anywhere. Congrats!

  34. Diana says:

I would like to order a copy as well! Where do I sign up? Congratualtions, Nathan. This series has been amazing.

  35. Nate says:

Keep watch – We’ll announce it here.

You can also sign up to be notified on the Ridan Publishing site.

  36. Dusty says:

Aye, Sar! count me in. And no Sar I wont sell it at the Flea, and yes I think I can handle the mass. Now time for a cuppa.

And to think, I knew you when.
    RKL aka Dusty

  37. A. Gibb says:

Nathan: I am a huge fan of all books except for the second entry. At the moment, I hesitate to recommend the series to friends, because of the weakness of that one book. I urge you to rethink that one in concept and tone before it goes into actual print—it would be a shame to diminish the caliber of an otherwise amazing series. Wonderful job on narration, by the way. Thanks for all the hard work; looking forward to “Owner’s Share”. —A. Gibb

  38. B. H. Giza says:

I’d buy the special edition at the price you mention. Let me know if it comes to be. One of my favorite series in over 20 years, and the narration was top-notch. I will enjoy having the print version as well…and the authograph would be icing on the cake. Please keep the Wang series growing. best wishes, B. H. Giza

  39. J. Carbone says:

I would love to get one. I am a stranger in a stranger land and would have one shipped to me here or to my family back in the states. Please put one out soon, I have been listening to you for a long time and would love to pay you back for the fun that I have had. Thanks so very much!!!

  40. K. Francies says:

    I want one

  41. Zach Ricks says:

I can say for sure I’d like one. Maybe two.

  42. Charles carver says:

I would be very interested in a hardback limited edition set as well.

    Sign me up!

    Charles
    Semper Paratus

  43. Abraham says:

    I would love one, too.

  44. Alex says:

I would pre-order a set today, if it helps get this off the ground.

  45. Susan Parker says:

Based on this tremendous response Ridan will be doing hardback versions…but we won’t be offering them through standard retail chains (the “retail” cut would drive the price up too high so we will only sell these editions “direct” for now.) This will allow us to keep the prices reasonable and put the most money in Nathan’s pocket ;-). We are trying to judge quantities so if you would please send me an email to: sparker.ridan@gmail.com it will help me do some calculations for the print run.

  46. Angelique says:

I WOULD DEFINITELY!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SERIES :O)

  47. edges says:

Can I give you my credit card number now? I want 2 of them. Please-o-please-o-please!

  48. J says:

Yes, please – add me to the list of those very much desiring a hard cover edition! As others have noted, likely 100 copies will not be sufficient. (I’ve e’mailed Ms parker to add me to the list.

I’m waiting in happy – if impatient ;-) – anticipation for Owner’s Share! and sincerely hope you will continue the series beyond it.

Actually, have you given any thought to returning to earlier works and adding to them (as separate books)? For example, having just finished Captain’s Share, I would so love to be continuing the trip to Break-All to find out how the new knife-wielding “hard case” crew member works out [Captain’s Share] and what other ‘stuff’ happens along the way there & elsewhere!!! Also, there would appear to be a wealth of possibilities in exploring the 10 “stan years” Ishmael spent aboard the William Tinker — say dropping in on the 2nd, 4th, 6th & 8th years. It would seem to be a way of providing opportunities to, occasionally, interact with Pip, Brill & a few memorable others … to bring them back into the mix & see how they are fairing?? Perhaps as simple as overlapping at the same orbital or one of them encountering a need or problem that requires help from the one or more of the others??

Nathan, you books have given me many hours of pleasure. My sincere hope that you will have a long, long writing career. Good health and safe voyage as you do so.

    J

How embarrassing … spelling and grammatical errors in a comment directed to an *author*. :-o

Put it down to unchecked enthusiasm, LOL.
