Jack Wakes Up

Today’s the day another of the Podiobook authors hits the shelves. Seth Harwood’s crime noir saga is out today and in honor of that, he’s giving away these chapters of Jack Wakes Up in PDF format.

I know it’s not sci-fi but for those who like crime stories — and there must be at least a few of you — here’s a chance to try out the newest voice in the genre.

Good luck, Seth!

Very Happy for Seth, well deserved. Now, the big question is when Captain’s share coming out? I’m listening to the complete series for the 3rd time. I do have a few questions that need answering. With all the planets and systems that humankind has evidently branched out to…where are the aliens? I dont mean Klingons or Romulens, but even the flora and fauna? You mean that there was not even a horse or cattle like creature found out there? All species that were referred to in the series are evidently transplanted from Earth during the terraforming? I mean not one new species has been found? Dont get me wrong, I love the Universe you have created and wish I could live in it today but it leads one to believe that we are the only one’s out here in the vastness of space? I just cant wrap my head around that thought. Are any of these questions answered in the next installment?

There’s lots of flora and fauna that’s adapted and adopted, not transported.

Many of the fish, for example. The granapple vines. There’s probably more but I’m not tracking well enough.

Remember you’re only seeing the very tippy tip of the iceberg in terms of what might be on various planets.

Captain’s Share should be out this summer. I’ll put Cape Grace on hold until it’s done.

As for aliens, I’ve addressed that before. I don’t envision running out of stories about humans, so I’m not where I need to introduce BEMs.

    Or wars.

    Or pirates.

    Maybe ninjas. :)

Thanks Nate. Cant wait for the continuing saga. Like I said, I’m into my 3 listening and I AM hearing things I missed before. Like the conversation between Sandy and Ish when he was contemplating the Academy in Full Share…I dont remember that at all from my first 2 passes. I can live without aliens, no worries there. I do hope that Ish will eventually re-connect with Pip, Sarah and Brill somewhere along the line. I miss those characters..Well done Nate and keep up the good work.

Good to see you surface. Just judging from the choice of language, I don’t think Seth’s novel will be for me. But appreciated your update on Captain’s Tale in the comments. As for Cape Grace, there’s always November, right! Since you’ve gone silent, I find I don’t consume much on podiobooks.com. I hope enough people are listening and donating that the site stays around and will still be worth it for you.

Oddly enough, I think I can see ninjas worked in. The crew knew Ish was trained in some martial art as he was always practicing in the gym, and they knew that he took out three goons in the dark. Both Ipones and Mosler either stayed in system or on the ship, and would eventually talk about it somewhere. Through the next months and years the Burnside incident gets distorted in the continual retelling until it became a legend of the ship and throughout the system. Eventually no one but Ish would remember the real story and Mr. Wang would be a ninja just like Mr. Maxwell was SpecOps (except that just may be true).
I’m not saying its a good idea, but it could work.
