Happy Holidays

On Tuesday, Evo Terra contacted me about a scheduling mix up with Podiobooks releases and offered the opportunity to give all of my fans a bit of an early Christmas present. I’ve been recording like mad and teasing everybody with how many episodes I’ve gotten done ever since.

The title went live last night with five episodes, almost three hours worth of holiday cheer. It’ll be up on iTunes as soon as the feed clears Apple approval. I’ll get it added to my master feed as soon as I remember how to do it.

I wish you all a happy holiday season and safe and prosperous new year.

What a great holiday surprise! Many thanks from your fans.

  2. Anonymous Steward says:

I think there’s a very real risk of podiobooks now suffering an unintentional DDoS due to half the internet trying to grab the episodes all at once. Hehe

  3. Kenn says:

  9. Michael says:

Hm… actually. If the first five episodes are almost three hours? How many episodes are there? About how long is the entire book? Sounds good to me either way!

  10. Jamey says:

@Jeffery – Hey, he *DOES* have a life! Let him enjoy Christmas with his family!

@Michael – 30 episodes, he said in an earlier post here in the Blog. That’ll be about 18 hrs total, I think.

  11. John Scott says:

Thank you for this most excellent gift. Your voice and the recording quality sounds better than ever. The new studio behind the bookcases was definitely worth it. Good choice on the theme music.

  24. Vicki says:

Merry Christmas, Nathan! I discovered you through Slice of SciFi last spring and I’ve been listening to the first five books over and over again ever since. I have a 65 mile commute both ways, which gives me a lot of time to listen. I am so happy Owner’s Share is on its way, butI will wait to listen until the whole book is up. I can’t imagine the agony of waiting for each installment! Thank you for all you do. Have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.

  25. David says:

Thank you for the early treat!

  26. David says:

Ah one more thing – Mr. Paul is Second Mate already; the Agamemnon is too small for a 3rd mate berth. A few times he’s mentioned as “going for second mate” and “The Third Mate announced…”

  27. Michael says:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, download, download, a download I will go. Yes, yes, yes, it is a Merry Christmas

  28. Nate says:

Yes – Thanks to all the people who’ve pointed out my Continuity Fail with Mr. Pall. He *is* Second Mate — Astrogation Officer is always Second Mate. I *should* have caught that several times over and blew it.

I’ll get it fixed in print (and in any new chapters — I think you’ll have to forgive me the errors in the first 5 until I can get it done and go back to repair)

  29. Jamming says:

Nate, if I can call you that, you are always welcome to your mistakes. Not one of us should hold it against you as long as Ishmael doesn’t. ;) It is nice to hear your voice telling us a story that we love to hear again. It is much nicer than the reading for me as the inflection from your own internal thoughts and external voice adds so much to the story. Thanks as always.

  30. Zeus says:

It’s good to be back with Ish one more time. I am ecstatic to be visiting this universe again. If I only we could all sign articles right this second and start studying for our Spacer’s Exams…

  31. norman728 says:

I only have one more word to say……MORE!

  32. Scott H says:

Once again, Thank You! The amount of possible plot-line developments is awesome…soooo looking forward to the rest of the story!! ThanK You Sar!!

  33. James A says:

    Nate,
Loved the series so far. Looking forward to the rest of your readings for Owner’s share.
Do you plan on continuing the series after this?

  34. Ari B. says:

Thanks again, Nate! Excellent work to keep me company here in the snowed-out northeast.

  35. Great present, anxiously awaiting the rest of the episodes… but thank you for this early release of the first 5, made the x-mas trip a lot more enjoyable :D

  36. Zen_jewitch says:

My God! Its full of stars! I thought that it was just fantastic to get the first episode here, and I turn around and discover (while cleaning up my pod catcher) that there are a whole FIVE episodes hanging out? Merry Christmas to us, for sure!

As always, Nate, your storytelling is wonderful. I’m looking forward to hearing how the Jeezebel pans out for Ish. Thank you for creating such a wonderful universe for listeners to visit!

  37. Rosaleen McCarthy says:

Many thanks Nathan for the wonderful bonus five chapter Xmas prezzie ! It was really lovely to re-vsit this world and join Ish as he begins the newest phase of his life. PLEASE don’t make me/us wait too long for the next set of episodes!!! I find the story really engrossing and I have found that it works well for me as an intensive and immersive experience, listening to the episodes one after the other…. and no waiting in between! Well, maybe I will follow the example of some of the other commentators on this site and re-visit some of the earlier stories. Thank you once again for such a great series of stories.

  38. Nate says:

They’re coming … With the holidays behind me, I’m going back into the booth tomorrow to read some more.

  39. Jeffery says:

Great, looking forward to it, thank you.

  40. Scott says:

Nate, Just wondering – Do you know when it will appear on Itunes?? I can’t find it yet. Thanks

  41. Nate says:

They *claim* 24-72 hours but I’ve seen it take up to 5 days.

  42. Rosaleen McCarthy says:

Thanks Nate for going back into that booth! You do a really good job of reading the characters and the presentation is very well paced. I am SO looking forward to the next phase. Thanks again for sharing this world with us.

  43. Carl E. says:

Speaking of continuity and Mr. Pall… I came home from work, sat down at my desk, and was immediately struck wondering the following. (btw, this is REALLY odd since I hadn’t been listening to any of the books in the last 3 days) When Mr. Pall was assaulted and injured, Chief Gearheart and Mr. Wyatt both got certified to take his place…what was the certification that they got? I know that it says, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was.

  44. Russ M. says:

It was their 3rd mate’s tickets. I believe it just so that there would be someone with a deck officer rating on duty, but it didn’t necessarily have to be the same grade. Not really any continuity issues I can see.

  45. Josh says:

    Carl,

They got 3rd mate, as that is the minimum nominally required by the CPJCT to run a bridge watch.

  46. Scott says:

Josh is correct they passed the third mate’s exam (they have both been to the academy). However, no matter how comfortable (or not) the chair, the expression it stand a bridge watch. It comes from the days of sailing ships where the wheel was so big you needed to stand in-front of it to steer the ship.

  47. Alex says:

Just listened to the current episodes for Owner’s Share. The start of this book is awesome. I can’t wait for the rest of the episodes.

  48. David says:

Think of it this way, I’m not being critical – I’m helping perfect a great story!

    Happy new year!

  49. Jeffery says:

Thanks for the two new chapters, my only problem was, it was not enough, lol. Your storytelling is very addicting, any chance of another couple before the weekend? Thanks again.

  50. Ignatz says:

Mr. Lowell, thank you so much for episodes six and seven. I’m still loving the gentle but oh-so-intriguing plot development. What will happen next? I’m on tenterhooks waiting to find out.

Another happy note. I caught your latest narration on Star Ship Sofa. You did Mr. Allen Steele’s story, “The Emperor of Mars”, right proud, Sar.
