And the winner is…

For the Ship Name:

Been kicking this around in my head for a while, and one name (related to absolutely nothing) that keeps popping up in my head is “William Tinker”. I just like how it feels and sounds.

For the Logo:

Submitted by Mike Assid who asked that I use either his wife’s maiden name (which is awfully close to McKendrick) or his mother’s name (which I like a lot, but will not reveal for privacy purposes.)

Thanks to everybody who submitted suggestions. I suspect I’m gonna use a lot of your suggestions and names in the next three books. Watch for cameo appearances by YOU as the new books come out.

My congrat’s to the winners, and to Nate because I wouldn’t have been able to make a decision between all of the wonderful entries!

Does this mean we can expect double share soon:D

  3. Nate says:

Since Friday, I’ve done over 11,000 words on Double Share. It’s almost 1/4 done now and I’m hoping to have it 1/2 way done by this time next week. At least in first draft.

Having a couple of days when all I have to worry about is writing is making a BIG difference.

I have always loved that logo design ! And I am happy that you are trotting along in Double Share. It is excellent news as I have sailed through Quarter through Full Share in a matter of a week and am at the delightful point where Pip’s father shows up at the lock, hilarious passage. I’m glad that there will be more Ish time in the future (although I also must say that I am curious about the Otto and Sarah story) !

Congrats to Nate and the winners !

Great news. I can see Ish now, boarding the William Tinker with the company’s logo emblazoned on its side, all set to start off a new stage of his life – – – with us all vicariously tagging along :)

I like that you mention moments like that in Nathan’s work. Full Share is, well, full of them. My favorite is when Ish is listing his specs for Penny: “the statement lay there on the coffee table feeling lonely for quite some time”. I really hope Double Share has, well, aleast double what Full Share had. ;-)

I’m really looking forward to Double Share to see how much Nathan’s writing and reading have progressed. It’s been a great process to watch.

    26,000 words and counting.

It’s coming together. My target is 80,000 words but it’ll go as long as it needs to.

    good work man

Ben – Yeah, we should have more of a discussion of the Solar Clipper/Shaman tales. Although admittedly that probably would be weird on the author’s page. That’s sort of an activity that you usually do without the author present.

I don’t know exactly if I have a favourite passage, but I do think that there are some innately (no pun intended) funny things in there. There have been some hilariously laughing out loud things. I love the ‘does he always talk like that’ questions from just about everyone, and particularly CC asking and Diane answering ‘No, sometimes he gets really wierd.’

Anyway, I’m blabbering, I’ll stop now.

  10. Nate says:

I could set up a forum if anybody wants to play there.

  11. Bruce says:

Victoria – you were thinking we might hide somewhere on the internet where Nate couldn’t find us? I think the cat’s out of the bag – might as well talk in front of Nate as pretend to be behind his back. If that’s weird, then let’s just admit that we’re a weird group, and leave it at that!

Nate, glad to hear you’re making good progress! We keep pushing you to get this out quickly, but I hope you know we all really want you to take as long as it takes to get it right.

  12. Nate says:

I have google alerts on my name and the titles. You can’t hide on the internets :)

  13. Victoria says:

Bruce – Oh no, I definitely do not want to hide out from Nate at the End of the Internet ! It’s just that if we do get into some nice opinionated discussion, that Nate might come in and say: ‘Well, actually….’ And also I could see how Nate could find it awkward. I know that if I’d be me, I’d find it really hard not to interfere and would want to prevent myself. But maybe that’s just me…

  14. Bruce says:

Victoria – I agree, but that’s my whole point. Unless you want to meet in person at your local public library, there’s nowhere to go that Nate wouldn’t see it (via his google alerts) and come and say “Well, actually…” At which point, we’d simply respond “Damn you’re good!” We’re all here, and any future fans wanting to talk about the books can find us here, so why not?

  15. Ben says:

I agree with Bruce. One of the marks of a great writer is that they can take feedback from their fans (us) and their critics (does anyone professionally review podiobooks?) with a grain of salt and only let it improve their writing.

A forum could be a lot of fun, talking about the books could just be the start of it. I think it would be a lot of fun to riff on Nate’s work by doing some unofficial short fiction set in his universe. With Nate’s permission of course :)

  16. Glitch_Chaos says:

I think a fourm could be fun so long as no one starts an Enterprise VS. Lois thread ;)

As for critic on Nate, the only thing I can say is, he needs to quit the day job and write more. If you need money Nate, try leasing out the wife and kids as indentured servants, I’m sure they won’t mind ;)

  17. Nate says:

    Fan forum

    Let’s see what happens.

  18. Victoria says:

Nate – My two pennies. On the forum, is it an idea to create separate sections for all books and maybe one for books outside of your writing so we have a place to really discuss them and make sure that the separate book discussions are not swamped in the general forum ?
