I like the series and have reread it a couple of times, but Double Share is the one I skip these days. Clearly the “system” is not up to policing bad crewmembers or officers and after the light hearted story in previous books, this one was kind of dark. I tend to go right from Full share to Captain’s share. Since I originally read the books in print (and gave them away to my mom) and now read them on Kindle, I just didn’t repurchase that book. Keep up the good work though, it’s a great series. I’d like to see more of the Lois if that is possible in the future.
Should have two Roster and the nick name for the Tinker (the Billy) Since in Captains share the crew has changed after first mate and the captain in Double share are canned.
Ulla Nart is Astrogation in Captains share, …
@TheCaptain…
Have you published anywhere the ranks (and duties?!?!?) of the merchant service? Clearly you put a lot of thought into what a ship needs verses its size and crew compliment?
I’ve looked for a wiki that would have it and found several fans wikis with stuff but nothing that catalogs what’s appeared in the books: ranks (officer/ratings), departments, what duties get added at each level.
Also, there seems to be a conflict in time-in-grade to get promoted and the ability to pass the test and skip over ranks.
Nat and Z had issues with getting promoted because they didn’t have time in grade but Ismael seemed to skipped positions.
Can you explain that? Was it just for plot purposes or does your world design cover it.
