Hey, Crew?
One of the perennial questions I get is “Where can I buy Djartmo Arabasti? How about Sarabanda Dark?”
As a matter of fact, I’m in negotiations with a local roaster to provide exactly those coffees as a custom blend. One question that really needs to be answered is “How many?”
The coffee will be about $12 plus shipping for a standard 12 oz bag of fresh roasted, whole beans, but I think the price comes down to around $30 for a three pound bag. I’m not sure on the price and it’ll depend on the final mix but that’s about what the roaster currently offers for one-off custom blends. I might be able to negotiate something better than that if we have enough volume and the blends aren’t too expensive.
Bottom line, this is The Good Stuff, folks. I’ve sampled his work and it’s spectacular.
If you’re interested and likely to be willing to drop the dime on this, would you leave a comment? It’s not a purchase commitment or anything. Just a rough gauge of the interest.
Thanks, crew.
[Update: I talked to Keith again today at the farmer’s market and he’s hooking me up with his “label guy” to do some special labels for this. I also sampled what I’m pretty sure will be the base coffee for the Sarabanda Dark. Keith is amazed and amused by the whole idea and I’ll be going to visit next week for some sample tastings with various blends. This is going to be epic. -Nate Aug 27, 2011]
I’m very interested. If I can talk my wife into it, I’d probably be interested in getting at least 3lbs of each.
I’d be interested. I like the idea. Thanks!
I would be willing to order a bag or three.
Interested, depends on the price.
I would be interested
Yeah, Katie.
The price is not going to be too far off what I have up in the body. It’s premium coffee in a custom roast, so that adds up.
For coffee aficionados, that’s not a *big* number but for people on a tight budget, that’s not going to be popular.
I’m in for a couple bags. Can brew some up and listen to the series all over again.
Count me in for a couple of bags.
I very well might be interested. Who’s the roaster? I’m always on the lookout for neat new coffees.
Sign me up.
Absolutely. I’m game :)
I’m interested in the standard 12 oz bag. More interested if it has a nice label on the bag not just generic type set.
=
Hah, what a fun idea! Will you have a book cover or special logo for the bag? :)
There will at least be a label giving the “brand” … I need to talk to them about using special artwork on the labels, but if I could… I’d definitely go with a “Federated Freight” logo on the label. Perhaps something like “Federated Freight, Private Label Reserve” or something :)
Tyler, the roaster is Mountains Edge Coffee in Berthoud CO. I met the guy at the local farmer’s market and sampled some of his stuff. It was top notch.
I am always looking for good coffee! The price is very fair for custom roasts, the shipping is the only thing that would make this more expensive than the local roasts here in Houston. I would be willing to buy ~3 bags.
Houston is NOT a mecca for coffee roasters, btw :)
Meh. (Voice of dissent, for balance.)
I’d probably order some.
Sounds interesting -I would give it a try !
I’ll definitely try some out! And then grow mushrooms with the grounds :)
I’d certainly be interested, as long as you can ship it to Switzerland …
while i don’t drink coffee, my sweetie does
and, i like buying consumable presents
this, would be awesome!
I don’t drink coffee, but I think this is a great idea and hope it turns out well.
I’m in for at least two 12 oz. bags of each blend – great Christmas gifts for a couple of folks near to me (at least one of which has read/listened to the books). Cheers!
I will buy some
I’d be interested in a bag.
I would be more than willing to buy a bag. If they continue it on, I’d be willing to continue buying it as well.
count me in for 1 of each
I would be interested. It would have to last. We grind our beans every pot, every morning, so we usually get the cheaper stuff due to finances. However, to have a couple bags of specialty blends would be neat, but, it would have to last as we would only do a occasional “special” pot.
Count me in! although I’d guess the delivery cost to the UK would be about the same as the cost of a full 3lb bag.
I think it quite likely I’d be inclined to purchase a bag of each. Sorry, can’t get any more definite than that at this time! >:-}
I would be interested in 3 or 4 bags.
Count me in!! I’ll take a bag of each. I’m always on the hunt for good coffee. We are spoiled here in NC. We got some great roasters. They even roast coffee at work (Lowe’s CSC).
Sounds great, I will get at least one bag of each maybe more !
I don’t drink coffee but a bag of this seems like a good place to start.
Nate,
I’d certainly be interested, especially if the bag was appropriate to the Solar Clipper stories.
I’d definitely be interested, but like Robert, living in the UK could cause the cost to go astronomical. Maybe you should sell them by the bucket too? :D
Fill my cup!
Totally in. I gotta say 1lb though. Unless my wife allows me to take up some freezer space….
I am certainly in for a bag or two.
I too am game.
My wife and I prefer to have the good stuff at home…
The office coffee pot is self stocked by the hard core coffee junkies and we try to rotate good roasts through to break up the passable ones.
I’ll have to see when it becomes available :)
I’m interested depends on how much it will cost to post it to the UK
Yes, please!
Great idea!!! Iwould be very interested but postage to the UK may be quite costly
If it came out around Christmas time, I have a few family members that I could gift to. I could also put it on my own list to Santa…
I’m in. Just let me know how much and where to send the money. It’s a short hop down to Colorado Springs. :)
@nathan, I was thinking more about the shipping. If it’s gonna tack on more than about %50 to the total I won’t bite, that’s why I put in the condition. I don’t doubt that it will be as reasonable as they can afford, but ebay has taught me to look at shipping charges. (:
yeah – shipping is the kicker for a lot of people. we’ll do what we can … not much we can do about it.
the roaster is fascinated with what I’m planning to do here :D
I’m definitely interested.
Very interested in good coffee would like an up date about when and where to purchase
