Half Share –
The hardcovers are still pending. I’m not sure where those are but I’m pretty sure I’m much less concerned about those than about getting Full Share out. They are coming and I’ll post here, put a message on the mailing list and generally let everybody know what’s happening when they break open. There will be 250 just like last time.

Full Share –
Ridan has my edits. My editor has been locked in the den with the copy for days and I’m expecting to see those emerge any minute. When they do, I need to respond and get them back to her. I still haven’t seen the cover art but I’m trusting Michael to envision something better than I could imagine myself. At the moment I’m thinking about something like the “reverse” of the Quarter Share cover where we see Lois coming into the frame, but in this case leaving. We’ll see what he comes up with but I trust his eye.

Light in the Darkness –

The Odin’s Outpost novella has a working title. I’ve written two-thirds of it twice now. I think I’m closer to actually doing something useful.

South Coast –
This is the next audio book I’ll be doing. Probably after Balticon.

Talking On My Morning Walk –
For health reasons I have to get more exercise. I’m walking two miles every morning. For the last mile, I use my phone and earbud to record about 15-20 minutes of whatever I’m thinking about. Could be weather. Could be books. Could be anything really. At least one episode has me sniffing a lot and another where I finally remembered a hanky and used it–loudly, apparently. If you’re just hungry for the sound of my voice and want to know what I’m doing today, you can find that at Talking On My Morning Walk.

Are there any updates regarding the Audiobook for Avempartha. I know it’s not your book, but since you provided the voice talent for the last one, I thought you might have some insider info.

  2. Sean says:

Nate, thanks for the update. Let’s hope Ridan actually keeps their word this time and delivers the books. Given that we’re still waiting for the hard bound HS… I for one am not holding my breath.

  3. Nate says:

@scone – yeah. I’ve not got that on my play list at the moment. I’m way behind on a contract audio job and can’t take on anything new until that’s done! I’m also not sure where Michael Sullivan is in terms of the contract and whether or not he’ll be free to do this. First I heard was “yes, not a problem” but then I heard something like “well, maybe not.” We’ll just have to see.

  4. Josh L. says:

Thanks for the update. Can’t wait for the Half Share book. I’d gladly preorder the Half Share hardcover if it’ll get them moving faster.

  5. Sean says:

Heck, I’ll agree with Josh L. on that – I’ll gladly pre-order both HS and FS hard covers if it’ll help. Or even the complete set.

  6. Tara Li says:

If you’re not listening to TOMMW, you’re missing some great stuff! All kinds of great topics – and generally, he seems to run over the 15 minute mark, so that’s all bonus content!

  7. Kanein Encanto says:

Just a thought that passed through my mind when I read about the cover art for Full Share… As I recall Ishmael is Spec 2 – Systems… why not the Whelkie sitting in what could easily be considered the insides of a bridge console or among a rack in the computer cabinet?

Just a thought, given freely to take or leave as ya like. :)

  8. Nate says:

@sean and josh – it’s a question of time and effort. both are limited and we’re just focusing on where we can do the most good. right now it’s getting Full Share out.

  9. Nate says:

Thanks, Tara. It’s great motivation for me to get my act in gear and out on the street.

  10. Josh L. says:

I’m a patient man. Focus on what needs to get done first. :D I have your morning walks to listen to and they’re very entertaining.

  11. Neil says:

Thanks for the updates. I’m looking forward to Full Share.

Nate, I expect the series to sell *far* better once it is complete. (That has been a quirk ‘discovered’ of Kindle readers. They want to read the whole series in a short period of time.) So good luck with them all. You have a buyer here. :)

Did I read correctly in prior comments that half-share sold 10,000 copies? Kudos to you. That is a very tough threshold to cross. Each new book will bring in an enlarged audience. Full share will make a trilogy, so hopefully that spikes sales of quarter share and half share too. ;)

I do not post here much, so keep up the good work.
    Neil

  12. Patrick Phillips says:

Is the fact that Michael Sullivan Left Ridan publishing for orbit the possible reason the cover art for half share hardcover is lost in the twilight zone

  13. Nate says:

It’s possible, but without the final edits, cover art is really moot.

    Should be *soon* now …

  14. Patrick Phillips says:

In worst case I’d even pay for Hard cover half share without the glossy slipcover art

  15. Sean says:

Nate, if Ridan can’t deliver you’ve got the proven track record and base to declare breach and find another publisher. Don’t sell yourself short.

  16. Tim says:

Gotten to the point where one of first actions of the day is to check Amazon to see if Full Share is up yet in the Kindle store…

  17. Nate, got an ETA for the Kindle edition of «Full Share»? Will it be released at the same time as the hardcover?

  18. Nate says:

It will and I’m HOPING that it’ll be before we go to BaltiCon in 3 weeks.

  19. Gary says:

Nate, I with Tim… I’ve also gotten it the habit of checking here to see when Full Share will be available on Kindle. I have really enjoyed reading the first two books in the series. Thanks!!

  20. Midwest_Jen says:

I’ve been stalking the Full Share release date for a bit now … I really don’t want to listen to the podcasts, not because I don’t think they’re worthy, but I want the updated/edited story and I prefer to read than listen (otherwise I get distracted). But I have to say that this is so far, one of my favorite series, in all genres (and I read a LOT of books). I’d love to pre-order it on Amazon for the Kindle, but it’s still not showing up there. =(

  21. Kcfoto says:

I’m relistening to all of the Share series and really hate you for episode 28 of Owner’s Share. Any updates for Ishmel? Keep up the good work.

  22. Mike says:

Its really refreshing to see an author so in touch with his readers, and putting out books at a fair price. Its a stark contrast to a certain well known scifi series new approach to ebooks with expensive publisher dictated prices.

  23. Tony says:

Hi, I have a couple quick questions. First, I’m sure I’m an idiot for not looking around in the obvious places, but is there an ebook bundle of all your books for sale? I’m personally happier with the podcasts, but I wouldn’t mind supporting you by buying an inexpensive bundle.

Second, I’ve only heard a couple episodes of Quarter Share, so again I’m sorry if I’ve missed the obvious, but do your books contain swearing, adult language, etc? The little I heard didn’t, but I know that can be deceptive as such things show up in later episodes. I would like to share them with someone, but both he and I do find such language offensive.

Finally, two unrelated comments. I’m totally blind and I appreciate your work getting an accredited teaching program for teachers who work with the blind. I was fortunate to have a very good teacher for which I’m very greatful. Secondly, I also need to do my 30 minutes of walking every day because I’m in stage IV kidney failure and I need to do it for my health as well.

Thanks for releasing your novels for free as audiobooks. My dad, currently in chemotherapy, will hopefully appreciate them. You have a good reading voice and I like your music selections.

  24. Nate says:

    Hi, Tony. Thanks for listening.

At the moment, there’s no bundle. I don’t have all the books in print format yet, so no bundle. I suspect there will be when we finally get there.

There’s a few cuss words but nothing egregious. There are some adult situations — they are adults after all — and some people have found them to be troubling. Listen at your own risk. If you have reservations about sharing, you might listen thru before making the decision to share. For what it’s worth my teen daughter has listened to all the books and appears not to have suffered any permanent damage.

    Thanks again, and best wishes.

  25. Tim says:

    Update on Full Share?

Can haz Full Share? Even cats love kindle ebooks…

  26. Nate says:

I wish I had more to offer, Tim. Ridan says I should get the edits back *soon* but that was 10 days ago now. I was hoping to have them out before BaltiCon at the end of the month but I’m not sure there’s time to get them thru the queue now.

    Sorry.

  27. Tim says:

Out of curiosity, why has Amazon not posted a pre-order for it? I can pre-order just about anything else from their service, even titles not formally announced yet.

  28. Nate says:

The file hasn’t been established yet. Until Ridan creates the record, there’s no preorder.

  29. Sean says:

There are some interesting discussions of Ridan on the net. I found the following enlightening.

    http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177833

The implicit threat related to ‘high maintenance’ authors alone was worrisome. Folks, I suggest we quit nagging Nate. They have him over a barrel – unless we’re willing to help him find a new publisher and he’s willing to consider moving on. We should also recognize that it would be a year or more between releases with a large house, so as readers we’re going to come out behind in every scenario but Ridan getting their act together.

Personally I’m still hoping for the HS hard covers, but admit I’ve pretty much given up on actually seeing them.

  30. Nate says:

The AW community is pretty much death on anybody who’s not mainstream. They’re pretty harsh with Ridan and have been for a long time. Don’t read too much into that thread.

At the moment, I’m pleased with Ridan. Both of us have been dealing with some growing pains in terms of having success beyond our dreams so it’s been a bit rocky for the last few months. I suspect we’ll get that ironed out over the summer.

  31. Josh says:

Any status on Cape Grace? I think I’m actually looking forward to it more than I was to Owners Share… and I devoured Owners Share!

  32. Barb says:

Like others, I check in every day to see if Full Share is available yet. Am so looking forward to it and know it will be worth the wait. Best regards and thank you for a wonderful series of stories.

    Barb in Bandon

  33. Neil says:

I rarely comment here, but let me note I’ve been dropping by every few days to see if there is an announcement. :)

LOVED the first two books and I’m looking forward to Full Share.

Good luck. Editing is real work, I’m sure Robin is working hard!

    Neil

  34. NormHart says:

Woot! Full Share is available on Amazon!

    ^-^

I had to do a search based on Author Name to find it but it is the same price as previous ebooks at $4.95 and it is DRM free. Thanks so much Nathan!

  35. Kate says:

Hooray! I have been compulsively checking this site and Amazon for weeks, and am thrilled to be able to buy ‘Full Share’ at last! I so enjoyed the first two, and can’t wait to read the next adventure. Thank you

  36. GeoUSA says:

Congrats on the great sales numbers with Amazon. I found the Golden Age series there and then continued on with Podiobooks. Last night I completed Owner’s Share. I will order the Amazon version of Full Share today.

I agree with Midwest_Jen as I often find myself distracted by shiny objects while listening to audio books and have to rewind. However, I did enjoy the audio experience more than I expected.

It’s exciting to hear of progress on a story about Odin’s Outpost. Will this be a darker novel? In what time period is it set?

Thanks for introducing me to Ishmael Wang.

  37. delbert says:

My RSS feed failed me. I had been monitoring it and there was no update that Full Share was released. Saw it mentioned on Facebook, luckily. It’s on order now.

  38. ian says:

where and when can i download double share

  39. Nate says:

The podcast (audio) version is available on iTunes and from Podiobooks.com today.

The text versions (print and ebook) should be available in August.
