Yes, I know. I’m remiss in posting regularly here. It goes better when i’m in the middle of writing. That means I have something to tell you and that’s a good thing. It goes less well when I’m not writing.
BaltiCon 43 was a blast and I can see now that I didn’t write anything about it.
Bad author. Bad. No cookie.
The upshot is that I’ve committed to getting Captain’s Share out this summer. No I don’t have a date, and I expect it’ll be at the last possible minute, but I’ve got what I hope is a nice tale lined up that will set up the final chapter of Ishmael Wang so we can tie off the series soon. Maybe as early as the end of the year.
Today I’m working on a ‘day job’ journal article. It’s going badly but it has to be done so hang in there.
I’m also going to record and post the short story that I read at the Short Fiction Jam at Balticon. It’s not science fiction, not set in the Golden Age, and it’s just a tad blasphemous (in the technical sense, not figuratively). It may not be something everybody wants to hear, so when it comes out, keep that in mind. That should be available in the next couple of weeks.
So, please forgive me for not writing more here. I’ll try to do better with keeping everybody up to date.
Thanks for the update Nate! Looking forward to it…
Looking forward to the next book. This will be the first time I get to listen as it is posted. I’m not sure how I’ll do since I have listened to all the other books almost straight through with no interruptions. I can’t wait for new material. You are an exceptional writer, and also voice actor (listening to Antithesis Book 1 right now).
Keep up the great work!
Was hoping to get good news on a new release. ( another deep sigh ) HHMM summer, warm days, cool nights, I wonder when that will come to the nor’east, where so far it’s been wet and cold for the last three weeks. Nate, hurry up will ya! Turn two! chop chop! No cookies for you! Just kidding, I’ll go back to my corner now.
Great news, Nate! Can’t wait to get another (this time, NEW) fix of SolarClipper. I’ve just finished all the previous novels (for the 3rd time!). Have tried a few of your recommendations for other books. I especially enjoyed Clear Heart and Best Laid Plans, thanks for the pointers to them.
Newly hooked watch stander J reporting for doody sar. Ship status normal, and no further incidants reported sar. You have the watch. Ok, so you’ve had the watch from my first tentitive listen over ad podiobooks. Permision to speek freely sar? It’s gunna be a sad day wen Ish’s tail gets closed, but… I can’t wait to see how it ends. I love the way you have the site layed out. Being blind, and using a screenreader program to access content stored on a PC, I thank you sar. Manny a atented to be borrint stands were filled with hours of fun getting the storage cubes of Ish’s progress and I can’t wait to hear more of it. This is my first ever comment on any book, I jus tfelt compelled to do it, seeing as the “Ish drug” has had it’s atented effect on me. Who knew, a perfictly legal, and no sideffect, nless you ocunt stands filled with sitting at my PC with JAWS, (my screenreading program), winamp, and a lot of using the “Never judge a book by it’s cover” lesson.I see why, I’m hooked, i can’t say enough good things about it, and I’ll shut up so you can get on with the watch sar. Bip me on my tablit if I need to report for watch duty at any time sar. I’ll be happy to comply with orders, especially from a captain like yourself. I think I’ll have a hell of a time on the “Ish” sar, and I thankyou for getting me hooked. Well sar, it’s time for my brain to get off wach, so considering the role that brains play in our daily lives, I’d say that I’d better comply. This tablit biping is a bit loud, don’t you think sar? Thanks again for the wonderful stands of entertainment. Looking forward to the… last book. I think I kind of over dit the sar, but see? Didn’t I say that I was hooked? *Grins*
Wonderful! I am so looking forward to Captain’s Share and Owner’s Share. It seems like every few months I start at the beginning and listen to all the books in the series again, hoping a new one will be out by the time I finish. It is so unique to find an audiobook, especially fiction, that can be enjoyed time after time again. (Most books are a one-time-only listen.) Thank you, thank you!
Great to hear. I’ve been missing hearing about Ish’s exploits. I eagerly await. :)
Nate,
I’ve enjoyed listening to all of the * Share books, so much so that I’ll be disappointed when you write the “final” book. Frankly I would listen to dozens of Ishmael books if you’d write that many. He’s a good character in a neat space opera, which is a genre I’ve always took special pleasure in. I’m not so interested in the South Coast/Cape Grace books, since those seem to be purely planetside. Oh well.
I hope you will satisfy our curiosity about Ish’s father before the series is done. It would be a major letdown to have him always be an unknown.
Thanks.
Thanks, Doug.
FWIW, Ishmael has already seen his father. I’ve been saying “met his father” but that’s a bit misleading. You’ve seen him, too.
And I do plan on a reveal before the series ends. ;)
in what book did he see his father ?
…seen his father…
what?
I sense another read-through coming on!
HAS SEEN HIS FATHER? Thanks for that mind bomb Nate. Just so we know, does his father know how to cook? Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Any hints? Oh hell! Firing up the iPod for another listen….
Always happy to oblige.
If you see him, too, please don’t spoiler it by posting here.
:)
Sounds like it’s time to start up a new speculation thread in the forums…
WHAT? Hes seen his Father? WTF? I’m on at least my 5th listen thru, and cant figure it out. Damnit must pay attention now. CRAP.
Cant wait for the next book. Need more NEED MORE NOW!!!
go over to the http://durandus.org/fans/index.php
so how goes the writing ?
I loved your other books and have been awaiting the news on the next book. Can I get a little background on the Captain’s Share book or am I looking in the place?
The new book is awesome. Not another podcast I look forward to so much or am so disappointed it’s over. Not sure where you go after captain’s share. Whatever happened to growing mushrooms in the deep dark?
I have been reading the series on my Kindle … with the last one that was released, I went back and reread the earler books again. They were worth the second reading. Looking forward to Captain’s Share. Thanks.
OK, it’s Jan. 2013. I’m reading “Double Share” and now seriously looking for the next one… “Captains Share.” I can find it nowhere! I am not real happy about that either. Today I’m searching the web, going beyond my normal of kindle, nook, amazon and ebay.
Why is this 5th book of the group not available??
