5 Responses to Parsec Awards: A Little Closer

As far as I’m concerned, Full Share and South Coast are winners in my book. Maybe not a PARSEC this year; but the “Solar Clipper” novels are held in very high esteem but those of us who love your work and can’t wait for the next one to show up on Podiobooks.com

According to all the “formulas”, these books should bore us to tears – but the only tears we have while listening are as your story tugs at our hearts. Heck, we shouldn’t have even heard of these books due to the lack of self-promotion – but the stories themselves compel us.

Kudos to Nathan Lowell – the man who breaks all the molds!

I still have no idea how he cranks out so many per year and keeps up with the pace. Let the sprinters enjoy their day – the marathon man will get his due one day.

    Thanks.

The key for me was making it to the finals. Now Full Share and South Coast will get those little 2008 Parsec Awared nominee badges on the titles. That’ll make me feel good.

And I can’t complain about having three novels in this year’s competition, getting two of the three into the finals and then losing to MightyMur .. I mean really? How bad is that?

Not winning does not diminish the excellence of these books in any way… They are still my favorites…hell I am still looking for the judges…

I have to agree with Mainframe,
I was telling my wife – (not a sci-fi fan) about your books and tried to explain what Quarter Share was about. The MC’s mother dies and he is forced to sign on to a merchant ship to get off the corperate planet. Everyone is basically nice to him and he helps sets up a flea market stall on the space stations. When I told her about him organising a knitting – well technically a crochet – circle in Half Share she thought I was pulling her leg. We listened to Quater Share and most of Half Share in the car while we were on holidays and she loved them both.

Without having the fan following you do have, I have absolutely no idea how you could pitch the stories to a publisher and get taken seriously. But the books are amazing and I love them all. Your writing has also made me think about and tone down my own writing style.

Nathan, I don’t know how you do it but I am in awe!

I love Mur’s work to, especially Playing for Keeps but personally, I think you topped her.

    Jeff
