Well, crew, I thought we’d get the book out this month. It was on the Ridan calendar for August as of the end of May but they’re saying September now.
I know the book is with the editor but I haven’t seen the response yet so I don’t know how much more work will have to happen before we can release it. They’ve had the draft for awhile now, so I’m hoping to see that edited draft come back soon and we’ll see about getting the ship back on course. I’m still hoping we’ll get Captain’s Share out in December and Owner’s Share out by April 2012.
In the meantime, Cape Grace is chugging along (slowly right now but building up some speed) and I’m giving serious consideration to releasing the Ravenwood series as a self-publish and sandwiching it between Ridan releases of the Solar Clipper Tales. By the time I could get to that, I’d expect to have Cape Grace, and the Ravenwood sequels both done and available in audio.
That’s a big step for me and we’ll have to see how things shake out over the next couple of months. I’ve got a ton of audio work to do for a variety of people so that’ll also have an effect on my written output.
In the meantime, the Parsec Awards will be announced on September 3rd and I’ll be attending Dragon*Can’t again this year. We’ll be having some kind of Parsec Party during the ceremony so that’ll be a hoot.
That’s all I got for now.
Not every shipment gets released on schedule. Some times you have to cool your jets.

Stuff happens. I’ll still buy them as soon as they hit Kindle.
No problem! I am looking forward to Cape Grace, though!
I may have missed this, but I was wondering what kind of software and hardware you use for producing your podcasts?
I just heard your reading of “The Astonishing Amulet of Amenartas” and am amazed at how well you do the different voices and accents. It really was like I was listening to different people.
I record using a Rode NT1-A mic, a Prosonus Tubepre preamplifier, and a Zoom H4 recorder.
I then transfer the files to a linux based computer and use Audacity to edit and render the mp3 files.
For my daily podcast (Talking on my Morning Walk), I record using a Jawbone Bluetooth Earbud on my Blackberry 9000. When I get home I download the audio to an Asus EEE PC, convert the AMR to MP3 using ffmpeg and then use Audacity to clean it up a bit before tagging the file (KID3) and uploading to my server.
I already knew about this from tommw, but it’s still a bummer. Hopefully it will all get finished and out in September for sure.
I think releasing Ravenwood on your own would be a good idea. It would probably happen faster, for one thing, and at the very worst it would be a good experiment to see what you can do on your own and how successful it would be.
Nate,
Sad news, but not a major surprise given the Ridan track record. Needless to say, I will buy the novels for my reader as soon as they are out. And I’ll buy the hardbacks if they ever are.
Ridan is certainly doing you no favors delaying Double Share this way. Have they done this to you before? If so, maybe it’s time to look elsewhere. My guess would be the usual corporate policy of “heavy on the Chiefs and light on the Indians”, which probably means Captain’s Share and Owner’s Share will be delayed as well. Total bummer. I guess we will have to be patient but “it ain’t easy”.
I spent the weekend reading the ebooks from the Clipper series that are available from Amazon in Kindle format. Wow! I can’t remember the last time I’ve enjoyed a series so much! Thanks for writing them!
Thanks, GP.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the books as much as they come out :)
Ive listened to the podiobook and its great. I cant wait to read the ebook.
Just discovered your books on Kindle this week. I have already finished the first two, and bought the third this morning. I will look forward to the follow three!
Thanks!
Any updated release date for Double Share? Have they scheduled the other two books?
Clear Skies, Quack
