Going Mobile

That was easy … A quick plug in and a theme selection …

If you access us by mobile phone, you’ll get a tailored display.

I’m sorry I don’t remember who suggested this, but that was a REALLY good idea.

Thanks.

@joel – probably because the kindle isn’t recognized as a mobile device yet. I’ll keep an eye open for updates.

Does the mobile version have a separate URL (m.solarclipper.com would be what I would expect) or does it browser sniff?

  17. Hade says:

Thanks, Nate. Much appreciated! By the way, what size *are* ship’s tablets supposed to be? I seem to remember they are routinely worn in special shipsuit pockets, which would suggest they’re somewhat smaller than an iPad, but I could be wrong.

  18. Nate says:

roughly 3″ wide and 7″ long. think “double long iPhone” and you’re at something that looks like what I’d originally conceived of. narrow enough to go into a thigh pocket, long enough to have a decent screen.

  19. Rusty says:

Sweet, looks great on the EVO 4g, but what doesn’t, really. Thanks Nate. Trying to imagine a 3×7 tablet, might be kinda hard to reach center screen in landscape, just saying.

  20. steve says:

    wooo very nice sar

  21. norman728 says:

    works on psp(GO).

  22. RB says:

Hey Nate, looks great on the Blackberry Storm. And a tablet 3×7 would seem kinda clunky and awkward to use in my opinion and even though it would fit in a thigh pocket but it would be awkward to have something that long on your thigh. Also I have a question. Is the only difference between a peeda and a tablet the fact that a tablet is 3×7 or is the difference more akin to the difference between an iPhone and iPod Touch (i.e. The iPod Touch can only connect to a wifi network where the iPhone can connect to a more universal network)?

  23. Nate says:

hm. I guess we have different ideas about the length. My thigh is more than long enough to take a holstered tablet.

and yes. peda is smaller, more like an iTouch in size and function. very limited processing power. a “retail level” device where a standard ship’s tablet is more “commercial grade” and an officer’s tablet is “professional level” in processor, memory, and battery use.

  24. RB says:

Well see I was thinking of it backwards I guess. See I kinda envisioned the tablet to be more like Samsung Galaxy Tab or iPad as the ships tablet and something like the iPhone as a peeda (like what you did there PDA ~ Peeda ;) ). Thinking maybe the standard level (or crew level) tablet was the wifi only kinda thing. I mean the ships-net and station-net could be broadcast throughout the area in some form of wifi signal pretty easily with current day tech. Then the officer’s tablet being more like the 3G version of the tablet: Being able to connect to a more universal network and being able to connect anywhere. Then the Peeda being more like a cell phone and hense being smaller, a little clunkier and not quite as sophisticated but able to connect to that 3G network because it has no need to connect to a ship’s network possible station-net could be broadcast as both 3G and wifi…

But anyways that was my view. And I have reassessed the idea of a seven inch tablet on you thigh and that wouldn’t be too annoying but I still think the whole seven inch long and three inch wide thing would make the tablet kinda annoying. If you slimmed it down to give it more proportional features but still keep it useable (like the 7″ Galaxy Tab) then I think it would work out.
