They’re supposed to all be there.
If you go to the Ridan site, they have the ebooks available directly from there.
Last week I found “Quarter Share” on Amazon in my frequent foray to feed my insatiable reading appetite. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and felt a little envious at times of Ishmael and his entourage of statuesque and powerful woman… Honestly the dynamics between the characters is what hooked me… Im starting the 5th installment “Captain’s Share” and cant wait to get into it!
Thank you Mister Lowell for an awesome story.
You’re welcome, Steve.
You’ll hate me when it’s over.
Add me to your list of fans. After Quarter Share, I kept thinking that I shouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did. “Bobbsey Twins” came to mind because of all the happiness in the books, but I could not stay away. After devouring Half and Full Shares, I am now anxiously awaiting the next installments. Who knew that such suspense and drama could be had from a story with such wonderfully nice people as the protagonists?
I love the “Share” series! I can’t stop reading the books or listening to the podcasts! I know the series ended with “Owner’s Share,” but when will Ishmael Wang return? He must return! He just kinda walked off into the sunset and I don’t know about anyone else, but I am starving for him to return!
I’ve got a couple of other books to write first, but as soon as I get Cape Grace and the Ravenwood sequel out, Ishmael will be back with a new series.
When i first picked up Quarter Share, i was concerned the story was going to be a tad boring. A guy in a merchant ship ..hmm?.. Well, all i can say is now that the only bad thing about this series is that only the first three books are availble via print or ebook and i have already read them all! Really looking forward to seeing what Ishmael gets up to in the following novels.
The next one should be out this month, Brett.
I’ve never loved reading. That changed when I found your Solar Clipper Trader Tales. I could not stop reading until I finished all of them. Further, since I found your books I can’t stop reading similar books. I can’t wait until Double Share comes out. Thank you for helping me find enjoyment in reading!
Josh
I bought Quarter Share on a whim and I was thoroughly delighted. I have now raced through the first three books in the series. I am now actively awaiting the availability of Double Share, Captains Share and Owners Share. I have been reading SF for over 40 years and this series thus far sits among the best when it comes to the growth of a character (and shear entertainment). Ishmael Wang now sits with Lerris (L.E. Modesitt), Miles Vorkosigan (Genevieve McMaster Bujold), and Bren Cameron (C.J. Cherryh). Do you anticipate a limited printing of hardbound collectors additions?
Thank you for the enjoyment I have received from the fruits of your labor.
High praise, indeed, Eric. Thank you.
The first book is currently available in signed, numbered limited edition hardcover thru the Ridan site. The others *will* be available as soon as we find a suitable printer to handle them.
I love the share series, it ranks up with Heinlein, Lee & Miller and EE Doc Smith on my enjoyable, addictive reads scale.
Please keep up the good work.
Thanks, Colleen. I’ll certainly be cranking out more as time goes on.
My wife may be glad I finally finished listening to Owners Share, but I sure am not! I had my headphones on almost constantly for about a month while I listened to all of the Solar Clipper books back to back to back. Excellent books and fun to listen to, I may have to start over and listen to them all over again. I can’t wait to hear more of Ishmael! Thanks for the wonderful stories.
I read the first three solar clipper books on kindle and then listened to the next three on podcasts. I would just like to agree with everyone who says they want more of Ishmael Huong. I really love your books. I enjoy all the details about food and the minutiae of daily life. I like your slow pace. It is very different from most of the popular series that are out at the moment that are comprised of action sequence after action sequence. Slowly getting to know Ishmael and his associates from observations of the attitudes behind their interactions has been wonderful. I also love your sense of humour. I must say I was very sorry Greta was killed although I do recognize it is difficult for an author not to kill off at least one beloved character. Mainly, I’d like to thank you for the enjoyment your books have given me. They are well written, entertaining, and also present a rarely expressed philosophy of the positive effects of treating others with respect and kindness. They occupy a unique niche in contemporary sf.
So please keep writing, Nate.
Thanks, Naomi.
It’s been a lot of fun and I’m definitely going to keep writing!
I’m Jonesing badly for the next share.
Is there a revised ETA for double yet?
I’m afraid it’s going to at least October now, Adrian.
Sorry.
I just finished the whole “Share” series. I must say you have created one of the best series in recent sci-fi. I thank you for making the works free to listen to on zune. To thank you for all the enjoyment I have gotten from these books I am buying them on my kindle. Keep up the good work!
I have been checking amazon weekly for the kindle edition of double share, captains and owners… any idea when they might make it to kindle? or do have to resort to different type of ereader? Just wondering, cause I got totally engrossed in these stories and now I want to see how the rest of the story goes.. our internet is awful to download the audio version so anxiously awaiting the kindle version.
genelle
I LOVE the Trader’s ales series. I’ve read all of the ones you have in print (ebook) and am jonesing for Double, Captain and Owner’s to come out. I check Amazon DAILY for the promised releases… Any idea of when the revised date will be?
I have to say that your Solar clipper books have been the best reads I’ve enjoyed in a very long time. VERY good writing, solid stories, and made me read (or listen) to them all in a very short time. Please keep it up. I will be waiting for more stories in the same universe. thank You so much.
Jack Moore
Chowed through Quarter/Half/Full in an afternoon…waiting for the rest in print with anticipation. Can’t stand e-books, like watching paint paint drying. Excellent read, though Ishmael is just a tad “to much of a good thing”. Just hoping you don’t go all Heilein on us in the remainder.
Mr. Lowell
Excellent series I am very happy with how you set your characters especially with the coffee when I transfered to my first ship that is how I was taught to make coffee always clean the pot with vinegar first but never ever clean a chiefs cup
Thanks, Preston. Coffee and food are Big Things for people on ships. It strikes some folks odd but makes perfect sense to those of us who’ve been out there.
I tore through all 6 stories in short order. Read the first 3 on my Kindle (I love the recommendations I get from there) and instead of waiting I listened to the last 3 on my iPod. I’ve never listened to a book and found that headphones paint a very vivid picture. I’ll be considering audio much more seriously in the future.
The story reminded me of myself to a certain degree. In the Navy I was promoted very quickly due to my test taking abilities and was even pushed towards OCS. I declined that track and left the military after my first 4 years. I loved being out at sea but disliked the rigidness of military life. My first marriage even ended in a similar way.
I hope in future series Ishmael returns to Dunsany Roads. I felt a much strong connection to those characters and would love to see how their lives have unfolded. Diurnia never seemed like home.
I thoroughly enjoyed your style and you are a master of character development.
And now I’m hooked on coffee again.
Sir,
I started the Clipper series just before I deployed and I tore them up on Kindle (which was new for the deployment too). I tell folks the story is routine, but somehow intoxicating. No grand space battles and wormhole generators, just people, time, dedication and adventure. In short, I’m hooked. Like most, I’m waiting for Double to come out on Kindle, but I can wait. I read out Clarke decades ago, but you take me back to that purity and wonder. Dude, spot on! I enjoy reading your work and wish you all the best. Geneatis.
I like your books a lot I have them on podiocast and ebook both, at least all I can get. I tried your ebook site but all that was there was one book and I have it already. Please put the other books there so I can buy them from you. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the new series. Carol
Thanks, Carol.
I’ll be adding Ravenwood soon. Maybe today.
The others are held up at the publisher and there’s not much I can do to hurry that along.
there is only one thing wrong with the books i only get one day’s reading out of each book as as soon as i start i cannot put the book down until i have finished it.
i have downloaded all the pod casts but i do not want to listen to them until i have read the books first.
many thanks for such great stories keep up the good work.
PS wright faster it is killing me waiting for the next one.
more books are on the way, paul
Will you be doing an audio version of “A Light in the the Dark”? I have downloaded the text version, but the voice in my head is not yours, and I quite enjoy hearing you read your work.
@ethan: Yes. I’m recording it this week, actually!
I love your books and have listened to them several times. Thanks so much for all your books and for being not only a great writer but an awesome reader too!
My husband gave me several books for Christmas and one of them was “Quarter Share.” I finally caught up on my reading and a few days ago I read it. I immediately grabbed for my Kindle and downloaded “Half Share” and when I finished that, I went back for “Full Share.” I loved them all and you can imagine my disappointment when I tried to download “Double Share” only to find out it wasn’t available. On to Amazon – perhaps I can order it there in paperback and have it expressed…nope. I came here to find out what was up. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you – I need my next fix of Ishmael!!
I have first listened/read your Trader Tales for a second time, and gained great enjoyment from them. Have you a sequel to Owners Share on the drawing board? Its ending seems to ask for one.
I also enjoyed listening to Ravenwood (Is this a series?) and South Coast. A great read and thank you.
Yes, there IS a sequel series on the drawing boards.
No, I don’t have an estimated delivery date.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. A breath of fresh air. Now I can’t wait for Captain’s Share and Owner’s Share.
Please help. Is Capt Share as an ebook available anywhere? Jim Lee. I Really need this book NOW before I die. THANKS FOR SOME GREAT READING TIME!
Not yet, Jim. It’s in production and should be out in a few weeks (couple of months) or so.
First I needed to tell you that I have listened to all of your books via http://www.podiobooks.com and loved ever one (and yes once you start you can’t stop). I have also bought them for my Kindle as they become available and have enjoyed them all over again. Now I find myself wanting to own them in hardcover and have purchased from Ridan Publishing the first one “Quarter Share”. But I do not see the other books in hardcover, just paperback. Where can I purchase the hardcover books as they become available?
Do you have plans to make hardback copies of your other books available? I am about to buy my second one, because I gave my first copy away to someone I thought would love it, but I really want to own them all in hardback.
Yes, Josh. The plan is to get all the books out in hardcover. We’re almost done with the #250 of Quarter Share. They’re signed and numbered and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
So far the rest of the books haven’t been produced. I’m focusing on getting the books for sale in some readable format before we get into specific editions.
I really wish Mr Lowell would write more on the “Solar Clipper” series. In my opinion it is on a par with Tolken. Please write more.
I will and thanks, Tom
Mr Lowell,
I have been a Merchant Mariner for over 25 years.
I simply wanted to thank you for Quarter Share.
You have captured my first ship experience so succinctly, I felt like i was a 17 year old Ordinary again.
Thanks for that.
Cap
I’ve never left a comment on an author’s site before, and there have been some authors that I’ve totally loved (and a couple whom I did love and was tempted to say something when they did something completely stupid and ruined their books for me). But when I came across this site in a search for something else, I decided to leave my mark.
I am a voracious reader. I wouldn’t call it an exaggeration to say that I read (or re-read) close to $1,000 worth of books every year (at mass market paperback prices). I came across Quarter share accidentally. First two times I saw it, it seemed only vaguely interesting. Eventually, I bought it on a whim and when I did read it, I completely devoured it. Please don’t take it as an insult when I say the story is simple and light because in this case, it’s a complement. I fell in love with the characters and was cheering Ish (almost literally at times) on his accomplishments because they were every day, every man goals and accomplishments. You could feel the effort he put into things, the way people were coming around him to support him in subtle and not so subtle ways. I’ve enjoyed every book of the series so far (though I’ll admit I was a bit sad when he left the Lois since I loved the characters so much!) and am eagerly awaiting the final two books.
I’ll leave with just one last comment: I’ve been spreading the word of this book to everyone whom I think would like it. And I say to them, ‘There is no villain, no evil plot. It’s simply a story about a young man growing up, and it’s one of the best stories I’ve ever read.’
Thank you so much for the books. I listened through the Wong Series in about a week. I hope you add to the series, actually. Do you have plans to do so?
Hi Nathan — I’m really confused… I had been looking about once every 6 months or so for the next in the Trader series and I see it’s come out — but while your website says I can purchase ebook formats of Double Share, I can’t for the life of me find it here or on Amazon. What’s the story? I pretty much use Kindle exclusively now, and considering that’s how I learned about your work originally, I’m disappointed that I can’t continue to read it in that format (so much so that I’ll likely abandon the series). I’m sure it’s probably documented here somewhere, but I haven’t been able to find it.
Double Share came out last May in ebook and paper.
Since then I’ve dissolved my relationship with Ridan and I’m in the process of re-issuing the books under my own label.
It’s been an avalanche of details and I’m struggling to dig out.
Hang in.
