Springtime In The Rockies

It’s snowing. Go figure.

I was reminded that I’ve not updated this site in quite awhile so here’s where we are:

I’m working on Cape Grace. It’s going well when it’s moving. Some days it doesn’t move.

I’ve got three new Ishmael books and three non-Ishmael books on my To Be Written list. They’ll be along after I get Cape Grace out.

I’m still planning on recording all my books. At the moment I’m two books down (the last two Tanyth Fairport Adventures) and with Cape Grace, that’ll make three. I have no idea where the time will come from to make all this happen.

Sorry that I’ve let this blog slide so long. I was shocked to see how long it’s been since I posted something here. I try to put an update up on NathanLowell.com every month and I’m still struggling to get myself out on the daily walk and talk. These last few weeks have been difficult but I’m cautiously optimistic that I’ll get that back on track.

Compared to the beginning of 2014, things are going better…but better still leaves a lot of room for improvement.

Here’s hoping that the spring weather will put some spring back in my step – and in my writing. :)

    Nathan,

I am, sadly, one of your many silent fans. I cannot tell you how many times I have thought about reaching out to you to express how much I love your work. I am listening again to captains share right now. For about the 20th time I’d guess.

There is no other audiobook that I listen to or read more, than these. I have listened to and read the wheel of time 2 times…. of course the first reading took 10 or more years… but the Share series just feeds something in me.

So anyway – I just want to encourage you – your work is so valued and I share it with everyone who will listen.

I lost my son 2 years ago to a stupid accident – after reading the share series and talking to him about it – and re-reading and listening after the loss – in a number of ways you helped me through the grieving process. I Thank you for that.

Your writing expresses deep feelings that resonate in ways that sooth the soul and lift the spirit.

I think I am a lot like you in that you are a perfectionist and don’t like to delegate.. I am trying to learn how – keep failing – but like Ishmael I’m a slow learner. It sounds like your are trying to write but keep getting bogged down in the process of releasing all the older works in the various published forms – re-writing – re-editing. Maybe you just need to take a break and make it a priority to write something new more often to keep your juices flowing. Re-working all the old material does not feed the soul, and I hate to see you so worn down.

You are Ishmael you know. He is your mirror – use it.

    Never stop writing!

    God Bless.

    Dear Nathan;

I’m pleased to hear that there are more things in the works, as I’ve been a silent fan for a few years. I’m listening to the midpoint of Owner’s Share as I type this. As someone who is struggling with getting a career off the ground (and some pretty nasty anxiety), I find listening to Ishmael’s story a comfort. I find myself thinking “Trust Lois” when things get rough, and most of the time things come out okay.

My husband (also diagnosed with ADD since childhood) and I both enjoy the series, and dedicated our recent quest for coffee worthy of a solar clipper crew to the journey we shared with these books. In speaking of the “trust Lois” idea, we think we’ll be using “Hank” as our house pookah…once we get a house and out of our apartment. Until then…we’ll trust Hank.

I’ve just added Ravenwood and South Coast to my podcast player, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy those as much as I did Traders’ Tales.

I hope things go well for you in the coming months…beware of pirates, filter the water, and trust Nathan.

    Love from Rhode Island.

    Hi,
If I may ask, when will we have more Ishmael books?

  5. Justin says:

    Hi Nathan,
I’ve never really reached out to an author before but while working on what is my third listen through of the solar clipper series I felt I just had to let you know what an incredible body of work you’ve created. I’ve listened to just about all of you audio content including work on other peoples podcasts and the Crown Conspiracy (much better than Tim Reynolds).

I’m really not the kind of guy who reads a book or watches a movie more than once. Generally once I’ve heard a story I feel its a waste of time to go back to it, but for some reason I’ve found myself drawn to the solar clipper series and south coast again and again. It’s almost like they’re therapeutic in some way. I came across your podcast during a pretty rough patch and it turned out to be the perfect story at the perfect time. They should prescribe these to people suffering from depression because after 40 minutes of quarter share I doubt there is anyone who wouldn’t be left feeling optimistic by Ishmael’s constant upward momentum.

I’m sure some literary critic would throw a fit about story arch but I really believe you’ve created a whole new style of writing. It’s easy to throw a villain in front of a hero and tell the audience to watch him overcome it, it’s much harder to create heroes who are simply struggling to better themselves and I’ve honestly never felt so invested in a character.

I’ll never be able to express how much I’ve enjoyed these stories without gushing and embarrassing myself so I’ll just leave it hear. I hope you never give up on these works and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Ishmael in the future.
