Happy New Year

Now that it’s almost Ground Hog Day …

Yeah. It’s been that kind of year so far.

Status:

I have the edits back on Captain’s Share — Thank you to the Dislexic_Wombat for his unflagging devotion to this effort for the last eight months — but I’m bogged down working through Full Share and getting the copy edits incorporated into the text. That should be coming our Real Soon Now.

Double will be after that, Captain’s after that .. and Owner’s Share is needing an editor who’s not intimidated by 200,000 word manuscripts. :)

Some people have reported that the ebooks are not available in their regions. It seems that the Ridan editions are still linked into vary places and – since those editions are no long available anywhere – that’s causing the problem. Quarter Share and Half Share are out with full, world-wide distribution. I’m selling copies in most countries so I’m pretty sure they’re available through Amazon at least. If you’re getting the “Not available in your country” message — that’s not my book. :)

The fantasy books are moving well and you should be looking over at Lammas Wood for information about Tanyth Fairport. I’ll make any announcements about her stuff there first.

Healthwise, I’m getting better but it’s a slow process. I’m getting the medical care I need which is a big step out of the river in Egypt. I’ve lost weight and need to keep losing it. I’ve got more dental work in my future … and some eye surgery, too. Always something new and exciting.

The daily podcast has stumbled along and will continue as often as I can manage it. (I need to go out right now, in fact.)

This weekend (Jan 25-27) I’ll be in Colorado Springs at the COSine conference — and I’m taking my laptop and editing with me, just in case. If you’re in the area, it’s a fun little con and SM Stirling is this year’s GoH. I’m REALLY looking forward to this one. :)

That’s about all I can tell you right now. It’s been a tough year and I’m working to put that behind me. It’s taking me more time than I want to rebuild the infrastructure that I lost and to recover the momentum that I’d gained before Ridan. We’ll get there.

Thank you all for staying with me over the bumpy bits.

Safe voyage.

  1. Sounds like things are on the up and up. Here’s to a great year for Nathan Lowell with your fiction and your life. We’ll always be here excited to read the next story whenever we can get it Sar. Lifelong fan – singing off.

  2. Shannon says:

Glad to hear that things are picking up. Keep up the health and of course thank you for all the great work. More importantly, thanks for keeping us in the loop on how things are going.

  3. Charlie Russel says:

I sincerely hope things continue to improve. As for folks not being able to find Half Share, and getting a message about them not being available, that could well be because Amazon still has the Ridan version linked to the hard copy book. As do you, here on your own web site. https://solarclipper.com/get-the-books/half-share/ is a link to the Ridan book, not the self-published one.

  4. Delbert says:

In the Orbital is still in Space. Launch when ready not before.

  5. Sean says:

    Nathan,

Get well, stay well – and the writing will come. Getting your existing works up, and up right, is important… But if you aren’t well then it is immaterial.

Maybe you can get four editors willing to look at 50k words each… :)

Seriously, I doubt I’d be a good primary editor, but I’d be happy to help as I can. You’ve got my email, I believe.

  6. Alex says:

Spent the holidays re-listening to the entire solar clipper series. I still find myself wondering what’s in store for Ishmael.

  7. barbinbandon says:

Thank you so much for the update. I check in every day as I want to read your stories just as soon as they’re available.

Many kudos on trudging through all the things life has thrown (in) your way these past few months, Nathan. Sometimes it gets tricksy, this life of ours.

    Best regards. Barb

  8. Brett says:

Speaking as somebody who has had a chance to read both full and double share before they were taken down, would it make sense to do try to get the first version of Captain’s share out before the re-release of the others? I have yet to have a chance to read Captain’s share, and I suspect that many others here may be in the same situation.

  9. Rob says:

    Nathan,

Thanks for the mention – much appreciated! And no, this doesn’t mean that I’m currently volunteering…

    Keep up the excellent work.

    Da Wobmat

  10. Dick Wissbaum says:

Captain, if you get desperate, I am willing to take on editing of Owner’s Share. If you are interested, I can send to you MY edited version of Double Share for your review.

  11. votefordre says:

Good job & good luck rhis year Nathan! I too haven’t had a chance to read Captain’s share and neither has my partner (i blame myself for getting him hooked to this series). We’re both anxiously awaiting it’s release! =0)

  12. Jeff Savage says:

Captain, I am so looking forward to your other books in this series, and you other books in other genres. I can’t express how impressed I have been with your books. Get healthy, take your time. I, and others, of your fans will be waiting for your writing. Thanks for all the entertainment you have provided. Jeff

  13. Dale Kraemer says:

Glad to hear you medical problems are gradually improving ! I, and I am sure many other readers, are very appreciative of the way you keep in touch with us. I wish a lot more authors would do the same ! Keep getting well !

  14. JeffD says:

Will these be available as ebooks through BN or other sources once they’re done? Really looking forward to Captain’s Share and Owner’s Share! :)

Take care of yourself sir! Here’s to a good new year. :)

    JD

  15. Charles Kaiser says:

Why are you revisiting books that have already been published and distributed when there are readers desperate to read Captains Share? I already have all the other books, I don’t need them to e re-edited.

  16. Daniel Campbell says:

I enjoy your books, but It Is very irritating when I cannot buy your books. You say that {If you’re getting the “Not available in your country” message — that’s not my book.} and this is understandable, but you NEED to fix your website, If you know the books aren’t available you need to stop your website from redirecting to Ridan and stores that don’t have the books. Your get the books still does this and from what I see this issue has been going on for a while…

I loved reading your books but things need to be fixed.

  17. TGreen says:

    Charles?

Offhand, because while you and I would dearly like to see “Captain’s Share” reïssued first, the first 3 books would then only sell like prequels when they got their
    turn.

Let’s not begrudge our host some food on his table. :(

  18. Brett says:

    TGreen,

Except that as far as I know Captain’s Share is not a reissue unless you count the audio version and the other books are reissues and have been available for sale previously. (I bought them on amazon previously, before they were pulled)

So it is not likely that issuing the never published book first would cannibalize sales for the temporarily out of print, previously published books, especially if the time difference is only a few weeks.

  19. Joanne says:

I really enjoy your books! Best wishes for your continued recovery! I am eagerly awaiting Captain’s Share! I promise to keep reading if you keep writing!
    Warmest regards,

  20. Robert says:

Don’t worry. Just make some good stuff.

  21. Tabitha says:

Still eagerly awaiting your new material, but more interested in seeing you successful and well so you can continue to write us many more. :)

What a nightmare this last year must have been! Anyhow, my husband and I are rooting for you and can’t wait to see what this year brings!

  22. The Captain says:

    You’re absolutely right, Daniel.

I’ve stopped working on producing the books in order to get these website issues resolved.

  23. The Captain says:

    Charles,

Because Captian’s Share is part of the series, and I’m unwilling to do what the Bigs do — release book five in a series when the first four books aren’t available.

Sorry. Not the way I work.

Full Share is out now. Double will be out next month. Captain should be out in April and I’m hoping that I can get Owner’s Share edited and produced by mid summer (June/July ish).

I’m sorry for the delays but I’m doing the best I can.

  24. The Captain says:

Jeff, I’m not sure what other stores they’ll be available in. Honestly B&N has been a disappointment.

I *will* make epub versions available. I’m just not sure where/how at the moment.

  25. be''etlh says:

I promise that I am a reliable editor, and am unintimidated by the length. (It doesn’t hurt that I, like Ish, have been accused of “always talking like that.”) Let me know if you require my assistance.

  26. Charles Kaiser says:

End of April and still no Capain’s Share. Things are seating to sound like Ridan around here.

  27. The Captain says:

Well, to be fair, I have published four books since November.

But you’re right. Captain’s Share isn’t one of them.

I’ve posted an update over at NathanLowell.com and with any luck at all you’ll be done reading all the Share novels by the Fourth of July.
