I look forward to hearing from everybody.
I just listened myself to see how he changed it.
Let’s just note that there’s no Subtly in S-i-g-l-e-r 🙂
But I’m really pleased to have participated 🙂
after just finishing listening to the complete (so far) adventures of Ishmael and now just listened to South Coast – for about the third time – I am writing again to let you know that I am really impressed and appreciative of your work. I hope that all is going well in your day job and that you all can get through the financial crisis that is plaguing everyone a the moment.
I wait in EAGER anticipation for your forthcoming works. Also I have started my own writing and recording my own podcast novel – look out for it, it is call “The Days of Noah” and I hope to be pod casting soon.
I wish you and yours all the best,
Thanks for all your hard work.
The day job is going very well. And congrats on the book! 😉
First let me say because I loved them so much I’m relistening to Quarter, Half, Full and Double Share, as well as South Coast (probably my favorite). I was wondering if you will write a book about Pip/Ismael’s time at the Academy. I’m sure they got into and out of a lot of trouble.
At the moment I have no plans to do that book, altho I have reserved the title “Port Newmar” against such an eventuality. There are so many “Somebody Goes to College” stories out there, I don’t know what I’d be able to add to them.
Cant seem to find you on twitter , Whats your username as I would like to follow you. Love the books thanks for all the great stories
it’s obscure on twitter.
Ok, Ok I just finished 1/4. 1/2. full. double – started 2 weeks ago and finished today. I am a traveling veterinarian can spend hours on the road. All I can say is thank you for making the time pass so quickly. I just started South Coast but I look forward to the Captains Share and any new adventures of Ish.
Thanks, Jim. I’m not sure if that’s a record for mainlining, but it’s getting close.
Captain’s Share is right around the corner now. 🙂
I just finished Captains Share and i am very sorry it is over! I have listened to all the Share books and cannot wait for more. I am a driver by trade so hauling things to different “ports of call” is kind of close to my heart. I just wanted to thank you for creating a world that i can see so well in my minds eye!! Oh how I would like to be working on a clipper and rise through the ranks myself. That being said I must shove off myself. Thank You for your time and Safe Voyage to You!
Solar clippers, here we come!
I recently discovered podiobooks and Double Share is the second book I’ve listened to. Like you (Nate), I am a fan of Heinlein and his peers. I thoroughly enjoyed Double Share and now will be listening to the rest of the series starting with Quarter Share. I found the story and the reading of it smooth and enticing. As a retired Navy pilot, I enjoyed the faithful extrapolation of modern shipboard life.
I hope you find the rest of the books as enjoyable.
I was wondering if you could approve me for the fan forums? I promise to be be good.
lemme see if i can spot your user name there .. 🙂
Firstly, Thank you so much for writing and making available your fantastic books. Over the past couple of months I have worked my way through QS, HS, FS, DS, and CS, there is now a big hole left in my life! . I am currently trawling thru your website to find what I need to do next. I now have South Coast racked up and Ravenwood downloading 🙂 thanks. I also found all of the supporting material which is great (wish I’d found it earlier). But can I ask about ‘Owners Share’ is this still on the cards? have you released it yet?
Again, thank you so much for these great books.
Owner’s Share will be out this year. I’m hoping for late spring so I can submit it for a Parsec Award in 2011.
How can I get a printed version of your books?
I have to say how much I enjoy your work. I am an avid podiobook listener, and travel many hours a week. I can usually finish a book in a week or so. I listen to the likes of Scott Sigler and Tee Morris, and I hold you far above even them. I love the way your books inspire me to be a better leader in my job (I wish I were a Solar Clipper Captain!). Thank you for your contribution to the literary world.
Thank you for your kind words and for sticking through with me 😉
First thank you so much for putting your work out there. I am *loving* it. Second, I have a technical issue. I use a FM transmitter (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itripdock) to listen while driving. Most of the episodes of Full Share barely come through. Quarter, and Half share sounded great. It’s like all of the vocal audio is set to the left/read channel which isn’t transmitted very well. Is there a different source/copy for Full Share. I’ve tried the one from Podiobooks and the one posted on this site, and both sound the same.
I’ve been driving with earbuds (not smart, I know, but I can’t stop listening now!) and it sounds fine that way.
Yes, there’s a problem and I need to find the sources and remix it.
The problem is when you mix the two channels down to one, they cancel out.
Lemme see if I can find them and get them remixed. I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile and just haven’t gotten my act together.
I just wanted to thank you for the very enjoyable share books that I have been listening and relistening to since I first stumbled upon them in late 2009. They are such excellent creations and thank you for filling my head with such wonderful audio images.
Glad you’ve enjoyed them so far, Wes.
Stay tuned for more adventures
I expect movies from you my dear man. The share chronicles would be an awesome name =P.
I love your tone of voice, your way with words, the details of you stories and the overall world you created with shocking realism. I just recently found the Share series on podiobooks but after just finishing double share it pains me to know that captains share is at current time the last doses of Ishmael Horatio Wang. As a young boy myself (young as in no credit card =p ) how would I be able to get the share series (signed would be heart stopping, air grasping wickedly awesome) shipped overseas? I read somewhere you where thinking about printing 100 or so books and I want in on that deal =) if I can still off course. If not standard hardcover will do.
I just want a tangible feel on Ish his world. Also would you mind if I take this opportunity to plant a thought in your head about making novels about Pips adventures and Brill and bevs off course. Oh and make a finalizing book where they all get together as captains and reminisce the good old days. Ah the seed is planted ^^. You probably thought it yourself but a boys got be sure =D
Nathan in recap: I adore your books and I will advertise them every game/forum/friend I visit. I hope you never run out of stories to tell as I will be searching the world over for your stories.
The final Share book – Owner’s Share – should be out later this year.
Yes, we’ll be printing limited edition hard covers and we’ll ship them anywhere in the world. 🙂
As for getting them together? That’s not very likely but one never knows.
There *will* be other stories in the Trader’s Tales beyond the Share series … I’m just not sure what they’ll be yet.
May I download your podiobooks and burn them onto cd’s for my friends that are overseas in Iraq? I love your work and enjoy listening to your story. I know what little time my friends have on the computer, max 30 minutes a day. I know they would enjoy your story but they would not use there little amount of time on the computer to listen and download. I thank you for the wonderful images you give me.
SGT Brad Henry
you bet. and let me know if i can help
I LOVE these books. Found them on podiobooks in the iTunes store, and I downloaded the whole series. Unfortunately, most of the time when I do that, I end up hating almost every book I’ve downloaded, because either the book isn’t what I’m interested in, or the reader has a very monotone way of reading it. In this case, I love the voices you do, and even when you’re not doing a different voice, it’s easy to tell which character is speaking. Also, normally I wouldn’t care for books like these, because I’ve never been much for futuristic books or first-person narrative, but you’ve definitely changed my mind a bit.
Actually, right now I’m finishing up Half Share with a cup of tea before I move on to Full Share 😛
Nate, you are AWESOME. I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. I don’t know How you make a space opera without even a single combat, and made it so wonderfully interesting… Just bought a copy of Quarter Share, and I intend to buy each one as it comes out. Thanks again.
Just wanted to let you know that I downloaded Quarter Share for my Kindle. Despite being an old fogey, I enjoyed it very much. Reminded me of Heinlein’s juveniles that I enjoyed so very much when I was I kid. Looking forward the next books for Kindle.
Thank you very much.
Hi Nathan, I am working in China for two months away from the family in England. I have all but Owners share on my ipod and they have helped me cope with being away from my home orbital. Love the stories and you have such a good reading voice. the story comes alive when you read them. Keep them coming I will be looking out for the books when I get back to the UK.
I’ve been to several websites lately that feature solid plack backgrounds with bright white text. I know this is a new-age style preference, but it makes me get “blinds” in my vision – which can be bad if you’re primary job is in graphics and you have to be able to see color and line accurately. I’ve come to appreciate how you’ve kept your website dark gray/light gray instead of black/white. It much easier on the eyes. 🙂
Hi Nate, somehow I stumbled upon Catpain’s Share first and got a few chapters in before I knew 2 things – I REALLY liked it and I was reading book 5 instead of book 1. I stopped right there and then listened in order from Quarter Share. I’ve just finished Captain’s Share and I need more! The pace and style are different to a lot of books, but I loved that – and will listen again. I’ve got Ravenwood and South Coast lined up, then I’ll probably start from Quarter again. I’m also looking forward to getting my ears around Owner’s Share. Thank you, and keep it up!
I loved Quarter Share. Actually found it in the iBooks store (They have pretty limited number of books right now). It was a great story and so refreshing. I can’t wait for Half Share.
I live in Colorado Springs and not really a bit convention person, but I found the MileHiCon website and am seriously thinking about coming up just so I can meet you. Thank you for a great book! Anyway I could get your autograph on a copy short of going to MileHiCon?
You willl probly have heard this before. but hear it goes again Thank you for writing these books. i Have for over 20 years read thousands of books and the books you have written are definatly amoung the better ones. Thank you very mutch i enjoyed reading/ listening to them immensely 🙂
Just wanted to say that I am enjoying all your “share” books, and I’m looking forward to Owners Share. Congratulations on winning a parsec award!
Another word of support wishing you the best for all of your ongoing projects, Mr. Lowell. I’m still looking forward to when(ever) Owner’s Share commences spooling out into the podcast universe.
On another topic, I know you were involved in “The Empress Sword”. That podcast seems to have stopped without any further information. Will we be hearing more from you in that one?
Paulette is planning on finishing it. She’s had some technical problems and I’m not sure where she is on it at the moment.
Hi you are probably sick of hearing this but thanks for your stories, they are brilliant. Now that makes me sound like a 10 year old but I’m afraid I’m 60. The stories themselves are extremely good but with you reading them they are Brilliant.
Now to my point ;I see that you have a twitter account, I follow one person on twitter and do this through a reader. I have tried to find you on twitter without success, but this could be down to my inability to do techie stuff! So if you could point an old duffer in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Once more let me say I have listened to a lot of books in the last few years and you as far as I am your number one.
on twitter I’m nlowell
and I never get tired of hearing how much people enjoy my stories. 🙂
No John. He’s probably just tired of us all constantly nagging him for more! 🙂
From a fellow Coastie – bravo zulu ..
Nate, just surfed in today to find the website colors changed. Very nice. Gives it all a bright, clean feel. Good show, sir.
will there be a sequel or ravenwood…sooo good
Zypheria’s Call and The Hermit of Lammas Wood are both on the drawing boards now, Pauli. So, yes!
Any news on when captain share and is going to be available on the kindle?
Not at this time, Shane.
I’m not making predictions any more. When it’s up, I’ll email and post a note here.
Wow just wow
I really love your work, I just finished listening to the share saga. Really love your narration and writing.
Now on to find more of your writing and other books you have put to tape.
As a traveller of necessity & nervous disposition I find listening to Ish’s story a very relaxing and enjoyable experience and your presentation and tone are a joy to listen to.
I suppose as many I would love to be able to have closure on Ishmaels journey (there’s a title) and perhaps see him rejoining the three and Pip & per chance to find Alveres…
I do not know what it is about this character but I can not help but admire him. Whether it is the sadness in his life, the kindness in his heart or the bonds he makes with others I do not know, but I find I envy this fictional lighthouse in no small way.
Your work sir is excellent, perhaps the best of the genre, along with the polar opposite of the talents of Mr Greg Crites, I think I have my “Desert Island Disc’s” chosen.
God bless and safe journey…. I look forward.
