Nate;

Of the many authors I have had the pleasure of reading, your work stands as one of the very few that, at the end, has had me weep with both happiness and sorrow.

Forever grateful, Mister.

Loved all Three books hope for more. You really captured the essence of ship life and the relationships that are created. It gave a great laugh to the monotony of my ship life. Again hope to see more of your work.

Hey Nathan -

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed QS, HS, and FS. I just finished the last episode of Full Share today and found the ending.. fitting. I miss Ish already! There’s just something about these books and the characters in them that really get the reader involved. I really feel like I’m standing next to Ish and Pip. Thanks very much for these books, and I’m looking forward to any future episodes.

Also, I’d really like to send something your way. Have you published these on Lulu? Or do you just prefer donations via Podiobooks?

Thanks again!

I just finished listening to QS, HS, and FS and thought they were awesome. I thank you for writing them and hope that Double Share will be ready soon. Is there a mailing list that I can sign up for in order to get information about the next audio book in the series?

I just started listening to Quarter Share last Wednesday, and I’m about halfway through Full Share now, hoping to finish it today. This has been such an amazing series. The books remind me of works such as Master and Commander, Sabatini’s novels, and in some respects The Count of Monte Cristo and other classic novels. I love the relaxed pacing (well, except for the first few chapters of Full – that’s pretty intense!), which your narration fits perfectly. You really do draw your reader into the world you’ve created. I feel as if I’m there helping the crew change out the scrubber matrices. More, more!

I made a couple of favorable comments about your series on my blog, and intend to bring it up again on my “Grizzly’s Growls” podcast. I am truly impressed. I think it rates with the best of the Golden Age stories I spent years reading. Isaac Asimov was good, in some ways you’re doing better. We need more of this.

So I intend to make as many further positive comments on my blog and on my podcast. I want more — just slipped into “Half Share,” and I’m going to keep it up as long as you can keep writing. If you don’t mind, I’ll keep doing what I can to keep up the positive buzz. You need to keep writing good stuff I get to gush about.

Would that be okay?

;-)

Nate, I don’t know where to put this, so I decided to put it here.

I just started listening to the last installment of Scott Sigler’s “Nocturnal” and your “story so far” was great.

I’m still just amazed that all three of the Lois stories came together so fast. I’m hoping that, some day, I can get these on print, so that I can read them on my own.

Thanks for such a wonderful universe and set of stories!

The Books Category of your site (on the right hand side) lists all books in alphabetical order. I don’t know if it’s possible but it may be better for the newcomers if the books were listed in Story Timeline order – of not there then maybe somewhere that’s easy to find.

Just thought I’d drop you a note of thanks. Excellent work!

The warmth of your characters is particularly appreciated. Somewhere between the advent of radio and television the ability to create warm likable people seems to have become a lost art. Hopefully yours will prove to be an inspiration both to other writers and society at large.

I don’t know if you have the books out in print yet, but I’m lobbying the (librarian) girlfriend to get them all for the library where she works. (Yes, she does wear “sensible” shoes…) Very much looking forward to the next in the series!

Best,

I love your podcasts! And since I introduced them to my parents, they will not listen to anything else when we are in a car together. Thank you so much for the thoughtful care that went into each word – it shows. I love the way the internet community really feels like a community – full of people I can actually drop a note to, and they will read it. I apologize that the first time i contacted you last night the first thing i did was nit pick on your book. I Love it keep up the hard work it is very much appreciated.

I had a question for you on the environmental problem that happened in ful share when the ship hit the emp. why did the crew not don environmental safety suits at some point so that they kept the oxygen consuption down as well? till the scrubbers came on line. I know that this question is pointless but I was just considering the run the environmental drills every month and no one mentioned puting on the siuts to gain one more hour.

just wondering.

Comment from Nate

They probably would have, had it come to that. They had several hours of air in the escape pods as well. The problem is that once they’re IN there, they can’t get out to check the ship. In hindsight, I’d probably handle this differently … it was rather an artificial and contrived emergency.

Double Share. The long awaited return of Mr. Wong. I was trying to describe your books to my wife last night. It’s hard to do. It’s a space story, but, no big war scenes, etc. Finally I just said that they are great. She is going to start on them soon. Keep up the great work.

I really loved all your books. I just finished Full Share (in one day, I couldn’t stop listening) I really enjoy your style of writing and character development. I still can’t believe there was no violence or sci fi action and I can’t stop listening. Double Share is loaded on the mp3 player and I am chomping at the bit waiting for it to charge. Keep writing and I will keep listening.

Hello Nathan,
My name is Darren Kelk of the pod-cast http://www. scifisurplus.com/ we aim to make geek news fun humorous as we discuss Scifi movies, TV, books and pod-casts. We have recently started a new show segment were we ask our listeners to download a podiobook and review. We then post their reviews and if possible talk to the author (Normally via Skype). We intend to ask the listeners to review your work Quarter Share. And to support the discussion we would also like to record an interview with yourself. We do not have any agenda other than the enjoyment of science fiction. We can also supply any question in advance of the interview if required.

If you would be available to grant us an interview can you please email myself.

Thank you.

I only discovered podcast about 6 months ago -I thought iPODS were for music. YOUR BOOKS ROCK. I have completed all 4 of the *share series. Talk about addictive, believable and fascinating. I hope you will AT least write enough book to complete the cycle … until he gets to be CAPT and has his own looong list of academy recommendations moving toward the first star on the right. I loved the inclusion of Pip Ballantine and Christiana Ellis as ship names. (I am a big fan of Moravi, Chasing the Bard, and Escape POD. I gave up my satellite radio to listen to podcast on any trip I take over 2 minutes. Great work.

Please keep the string going. Off to listen to the Shaman.

I just want to thank you for putting out such fantastic books, i have never been so immersed in any book that i have read or listned to, they really are truly wonderful, PLEASE make more.
This seems really out of line, it’s just a suggestion, but have you ever considered the idea of pirates in the golden age, i’d love to see the way Ish handles that situation, i think it would be really interesting, it dosent really fit into the tone of the novels that much , but it dosent necessarily have to be violent or nasty.
Thanks so much for making these books, the characters you create are the most realistic i’ve seen or heard, and so original.

Nathan,
Just wanted you to know how much I am enjoying the Share series. I inadvertently started with Double Share and realized later that I listened to that book out of turn. It didn’t matter. I wanted to find out how things began for Ishmael as a spacer. I now have listened to Quarter Share and Half Share and I am almost finished with Full Share. I plan to listen to South Coast and I’m looking forward to Cape Grace. It seems I read somewhere that you plan to write or are writing Captain’s Share. I am hooked on these books and I love the stories! I must say that you’ve created such a warm and considerate character in Ishmael that I can hardly wait to find out what happens next in his life. I have been brought to tears at times with his kindness. Thank you for sharing (pardon the pun) these books with all of us in the ethernet.

The inflections you use are in the right places and it makes me feel like am in the story, like the standing next to you but not seen. Firstly, Thank you so much for writing and making available your fantastic books. Over the past couple of months I have worked my way through QS, HS, FS, DS, and CS, there is now a big hole left in my life! . I am currently trawling thru your website to find what I need to do next. I now have South Coast racked up and Ravenwood downloading :-) thanks. I also found all of the supporting material which is great (wish I’d found it earlier). But can I ask about ‘Owners Share’ is this still on the cards? have you released it yet?

Nate,
First thank you so much for putting your work out there. I am *loving* it. Second, I have a technical issue. I use a FM transmitter (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itripdock) to listen while driving. Most of the episodes of Full Share barely come through. Quarter, and Half share sounded great. It’s like all of the vocal audio is set to the left/read channel which isn’t transmitted very well. Is there a different source/copy for Full Share. I’ve tried the one from Podiobooks and the one posted on this site, and both sound the same.

I’ve been driving with earbuds (not smart, I know, but I can’t stop listening now!) and it sounds fine that way.

Thanks again,
–Ben

Comment from Nate

Yes, there’s a problem and I need to find the sources and remix it.

The problem is when you mix the two channels down to one, they cancel out.

Lemme see if I can find them and get them remixed. I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile and just haven’t gotten my act together.

Nathan,
I expect movies from you my dear man. The share chronicles would be an awesome name =P.
I love your tone of voice, your way with words, the details of you stories and the overall world you created with shocking realism. I just recently found the Share series on podiobooks but after just finishing double share it pains me to know that captains share is at current time the last doses of Ishmael Horatio Wang. As a young boy myself (young as in no credit card =p ) how would I be able to get the share series (signed would be heart stopping, air grasping wickedly awesome) shipped overseas? I read somewhere you where thinking about printing 100 or so books and I want in on that deal =) if I can still off course. If not standard hardcover will do.
I just want a tangible feel on Ish his world. Also would you mind if I take this opportunity to plant a thought in your head about making novels about Pips adventures and Brill and bevs off course. Oh and make a finalizing book where they all get together as captains and reminisce the good old days. Ah the seed is planted ^^. You probably thought it yourself but a boys got be sure =D
Nathan in recap: I adore your books and I will advertise them every game/forum/friend I visit. I hope you never run out of stories to tell as I will be searching the world over for your stories.

sincerely Niels

Yes, we’ll be printing limited edition hard covers and we’ll ship them anywhere in the world. :)

As for getting them together? That’s not very likely but one never knows.

I LOVE these books. Found them on podiobooks in the iTunes store, and I downloaded the whole series. Unfortunately, most of the time when I do that, I end up hating almost every book I’ve downloaded, because either the book isn’t what I’m interested in, or the reader has a very monotone way of reading it. In this case, I love the voices you do, and even when you’re not doing a different voice, it’s easy to tell which character is speaking. Also, normally I wouldn’t care for books like these, because I’ve never been much for futuristic books or first-person narrative, but you’ve definitely changed my mind a bit.

Actually, right now I’m finishing up Half Share with a cup of tea before I move on to Full Share :P

Hi Nathan, I am working in China for two months away from the family in England. I have all but Owners share on my ipod and they have helped me cope with being away from my home orbital. Love the stories and you have such a good reading voice. the story comes alive when you read them. Keep them coming I will be looking out for the books when I get back to the UK.

I’ve been to several websites lately that feature solid plack backgrounds with bright white text. I know this is a new-age style preference, but it makes me get “blinds” in my vision – which can be bad if you’re primary job is in graphics and you have to be able to see color and line accurately. I’ve come to appreciate how you’ve kept your website dark gray/light gray instead of black/white. It much easier on the eyes. :)

Hi Nate, somehow I stumbled upon Catpain’s Share first and got a few chapters in before I knew 2 things – I REALLY liked it and I was reading book 5 instead of book 1. I stopped right there and then listened in order from Quarter Share. I’ve just finished Captain’s Share and I need more! The pace and style are different to a lot of books, but I loved that – and will listen again. I’ve got Ravenwood and South Coast lined up, then I’ll probably start from Quarter again. I’m also looking forward to getting my ears around Owner’s Share. Thank you, and keep it up!

I loved Quarter Share. Actually found it in the iBooks store (They have pretty limited number of books right now). It was a great story and so refreshing. I can’t wait for Half Share.

I live in Colorado Springs and not really a bit convention person, but I found the MileHiCon website and am seriously thinking about coming up just so I can meet you. Thank you for a great book! Anyway I could get your autograph on a copy short of going to MileHiCon?

Mark
