Thanks!

The Kindle version of Quarter Share has been edging up the charts slowly on Amazon. We purposely did not try to do an Amazon rush on this because, well, I think they’ve been over done and I didn’t want to put that kind of pressure on the fans. In spite of not doing the rush, word’s getting out and, rather than a one day flash in the charts, we’ve got a nice solid presence in three of the SciFi sub genre charts.

We’ve been hanging mostly in the under-1000 region for a few days now and more folks who aren’t from the podcast world are beginning to find it. It’s terribly exciting and even though these are sub-genre lists, the idea that I’m in there with the likes of Asimov and Heinlein has me a bit giddy. I’m even number 30 in best sellers in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction — which is squee-worthy in itself.

Thanks to all of you for helping me reach this point and I’m looking forward to releasing the next book in a few weeks.

No offense, but I’ve heard your voice, I’m having a really, really hard time picturing you “squee”.

Just kidding, congrats and great job Nathan, you deserve it.

  2. Nate says:

trust me. with the right incentive, I can squee :)

  3. Abbie says:

You rock! I’m glad it’s doing well. :)

  4. Watcher says:

If my experience is anything to go by, the “Trust Lois” shirts are a great way of spreading word of mouth. More than any other shirt I wear, people ask me about that one (“Trust Lois” is an unusual enough expression that people have to ask), and give me a chance to talk up the books. Glad the momentum is building!

I intend to buy all 6 books… we need to support you as an author so you can make a living doing this full time. Loved the cover pic and the personalization was awesome. My Girlfriend and I are HUGE fans… Does the book differ substantially from the podcast?

  6. Joshua Reid says:

I would also love a book detailing Ish’s adventures at Port Newmar… could fit in neatly between full share and double share

  7. Nate says:

Joshua, the book and the podcast are substantially the same story. I think the print version is a little cleaner in terms of grammar and construction, and it’s also formatted so you can read it clearly on the page without a lot of the dialog tags I needed to put in to identify who was speaking in the audio version because I don’t do voices.

Glad you liked it and I’m looking forward to Owner’s Share next month – along with seeing Half Share make it to print in October.

Just buzzed through Quarter Share after picking it up on the Kindle as an Amazon recommendation. Very good stuff. Is Half Share coming to the Kindle when it hits print in Oct?

    Keep it up! :-)

  9. Nate says:

    Oh yeah.

All the books will be in the same formats we’ve established with Quarter Share.

  10. John says:

Owner’s share is going to come out before half share?

  11. Nate says:

Owner’s Share will be out as a PODIOBOOK in August. It’ll be a while before it sees print.

Half Share is already out in audio and has been for a couple of years. It’ll be available in print in October.

  12. Chris says:

Just finished Quarter Share (dead, but recyclable to mushrooms, wood release) purchased from an Amazon “you might also like this” recommendation, and it was a blast! I find myself really looking forward to the continuation of the story! Thanks for also going with the oldschool paper release so us non-Kindle-land users can enjoy your story, though its going to be a struggle to wait for the next installment vs just audiobooking it to know how it continues :-) Thank you and the best of luck

  13. James says:

Wow, Owner’s Share due out in August. I can’t wait. Maybe I will be able to listen to it when I will be driving across the country sometime that month.

Also, I am really enjoying your narration of The Crown Conspiracy.

Also, I just finished reading the hardcover of Quarter Share for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it just as much as ever. I also bought the ebook version for my dad (who just got a shiny new Nook). I have been after him for years to listen to Quarter Share, but he doesn’t really like audiobooks. Now he is finally reading the story!

  14. James says:

PS – Thanks for putting Quarter Share out in epub format as that is really one of the easiest drm free formats to deal with for the nook. As my Dad is not all that technically inclined, I am naturally the one that has to help him figure out how to load things onto the Nook, and it was nice to have no hassle loading your novel onto the device.

  15. Greg says:

    Nate,
Thank you for the Kindle release! It’s a book and format that I can really get behind and enjoy. I have recommended your stories in all formats to many people. Keep writing, and we’ll keep supporting.

  16. Tim says:

Picked up Quarter Share from Amazon, and read through it in a day. It was a great read, and I can’t wait to get the next in October. Copying the audiologs puts a little strain on my Kindle, but when my new IPhone arrives, these will be some of the first tossed on it. Thanks for a great series focusing just on everyday ppl, and not the sterotypical hero/villian format.

  17. Peter says:

Well I certainly enjoyed the kindle version of Quarter Share, can I have some more please?
Can’t we accelarate the ebooks? Please.

    Peter

  18. Nate says:

Actually, the medium isn’t the issue. It’s getting the text right.

So, I’m afraid not. I wish we could.

  19. DeadCell says:

Wow. At $3.50, this is a no-brainer. I just finished listening to the audio book, and loved it. I’m downloading Half Share now! I can’t wait until Half Share is on there as an ebook!

  20. Kevin says:

Quarter Share is number 17 on Amazon’s top 100 Kindle science fiction books. Not bad…

  21. David says:

Just finished listening to QS for the 4th time. And what do I see on boingboing, but a segment on “how to grow mushrooms”. http://boingboing.net/2011/07/27/growing-mushrooms-on-old-catalogs.html

    Enjoy.

  22. Nate says:

    co-incidence, I’m certain
