Excellent prose in a delightful personal narrative style. One gets involved in the ship’s daily routine and the lives of the crew.

  2. shellie says:

Marvelously done! The story sucked me right in. Where do I find chapter 2?? ^_^

  3. Nate says:

I’m so pleased you liked it. There are several ways to continue.

The recommended way is to subscribe to the book like a podcast, by creating a free account at Podiobooks.com and putting the feed link into your aggregator for regular and automatic download.

You can also scroll down to the bottom of the page at

    http://www.podiobooks.com/podiobooks/book.php?ID=130

    and download the chapters manually.

For the record, you do NOT need an iPod to listen to podiobooks, or any other podcast.

  4. Joe C says:

Nate – I’m enjoying your podcast tremendously and can’t wait for the next installment(s). I just finished listening to the first 8 episode for the second time.

Do you plan on releasing episodes on a regular basis?

  5. Nate says:

    Yes!

When PB gets this week’s updates done, there’ll be three more episodes.

    Then three next week.

Then three the week after. That should be the end of it. Quarter Share has 17 episodes.

The sequel, Half Share, is written and in audio production. There’ll be 14 episodes there and should be coming to Podiobooks near the end of March.

The third book, Full Share, has been through the first draft. I’m currently in second draft now and trying to decide if there’ll be a fourth book or not.

    Thanks for the positive feedback!

Nate, you are doing a fantastic job! The hornpipe fits so well, Clipper music with spacey overlays (One of Curan’s best I heard, thanks for the link). I would STRONGLY recommend you continue a 4th book. You have a gift for telling a wholesome tale that holds interest well, and is as addicting as ‘nutty sarabausta’. Good Luck in all that you do.

  7. Dave P says:

Thankyou for Quarter Share, I’ve really enjoyed it.
The characters seem to come alive for me and I eagerly awaiting Half Share.

Fyi, I do believe that that what Pip said about Cookie’s assessment of their trading results changed between episode 17 and the Half share preview.

  8. TRWL says:

Nate , just listened to your 1st chapter . The most interesting part to me is how you ever thought up this whole thing . I do remember your interest in science fic in past years . Had to turn up the volume to full . I listen slightly slower than you recite , but that has to do with hearage . Now I’ll have to figure how to get the rest of the system . TRWL

Ive just listened to the last chapter of Quarter share and am suffering that lost feeling I get when I come to the end of a really good book.
I subscribe through Podiobooks and am going to be checking all the time for the arrival of Half share. Please please please go on to do a fourth.

    Hi,

I was loving quarter share right up to the point where I couldn’t download file 17 off of podiobooks. Actually it downloads as a 1 kb file and isn’t recognized as a MP3 format. I really want to know how it ends! Is there any where else I can download from? Thanks. I’m looking forward to the sequel.

  11. Nate says:

It’s all there … the problem is Podiobooks times out and truncates the file. Go to the book page and scroll to the bottom. You can manually download the file from the (right-click and “save as”).

    Hi Nathan

I just sent a missive to podiobooks expressing how much of a true gem Quarter Share (and now Half Share) is in their listings. Your book needs more recognition. QS is by far the most interesting I’ve listened to on Podiobooks so far. Keep it up.

  13. Jennifer says:

I’ve just listened to the charming first episode of Quarter Share and now want the whole series. Of course you have to write another after you finish Full Share. This is a great start on a really, really good series. My only gripe is that the Podiobook servers seem unstable. Are there any other methods to download the book?

  14. Nate says:

At the moment, no. While you can subscribe throught iTunes, the audiofiles themselves reside on the podiobooks media server.

  15. Dear Nate,

After listening to all the available episodes at once of Half Share, then Full Share, I’m now listening to Quarter Share; kind of doing it backwards, never the less I love your books and believe you’re one of the best writers to come along in a long while,(you and Matt Selznick). I enjoy your subtle, calm and believable style. It’s delightfully unique for Sci-fi. I so admire Ish. I think most women will agree, he’s one of the rare kind of guys with his values totally in the right place, the kind of person I wish were real so I’d have the chance to meet him and then be grateful to his mom for raising him the right way.
You deserve to win the Parsec Award and all the awards that will undoubtedly come your way in the future. By the way I agree with your idea of keeping your narrative clean, free of, in my humble opinion the annoying “Scott Sigler type” extra jibberish. Thank you Nate! I wish you the very best.

Both my husband and I like all the trader tales. I am listening to Halfshare now. My husband is also for the third time. He is hoping more of Fullshare will come out soon. Thank you for the wonderful books.

I just finished Quarter Share. What a great book! Is there any way to get a hardcopy? Not that I did not enjoy your reading of Quarter Share, but some books are so good they deserve to be read.

  19. Nate says:

    Not yet.

    Perhaps one day ;)

I am a big fan now. I have just finished Quarter Share and I am heading towards the rest of your ouevre. I really love the story, it’s as familiar and pleasant as an old ship’s tee. I really enjoy the positivity of the plot and admire the characters.

Hi Nathan, I love your writings, and would like to get started with the Trader’s Diary series. I’m not sure what the order is, as they are not numbered. Can you please help me out here? Thank you very much, Ray

  25. Nate says:

    Small to Large ..

    Quarter
    Half
    Full
    Double
    Captain
    Owner (coming soon)

South Coast is chronologically before Quarter but was written after Full.

Ravenwood is a fantasy novel set in a different universe.
