Looks like there are some hardware issues at Podiobooks.

Until they get things moving again, you might find this helpful to maintain your addiction:

  1. Steve Hoffman says:

you already downloaded them all didn’t you? They’re probably stored on your computer.

  2. Nate says:

Actually, I have the originals. I didn’t need to download them. :)

  3. Josh L says:

Thanks a lot Nate. :D Now I can catch up on my drive home. Keep up the good work.

  4. Josh says:

if anyone has itunes you can get all the episodes there and they work fine. I have all the way up to episode twenty one as of this morning. just type in either the book name in the search box on itunes or the word podiobooks. i have never had a problem with it and you can still subscribe to nate.

  5. Jafo Calamity says:

Thanks Skipper, Now if Itunes would get caught up.

  6. GreenMonalisa says:

You my friend, are a gentleman and a scholar!

  7. Annie says:

I’ll try not to ask any more questions for now, and trust that you can keep up the pace. I’m sure the Podiobooks crew is doing everything they can to get the site back up. It’ll be hard, but I’ll try not to ping the site too often.
One additional thought – You’ve cut significant content, Ish has a loyal fan base, and you have backlog of projects. But … please consider releasing a periodic short story. You could release shorter audios, publish in places like Analog and eventually even package them all in another book. Maybe call it “Trader’s Tales.” ;-)

  8. dick says:

Nate said “If I manage to keep up this pace, you’ll know the answers to those questions and more by the end of the week.” and I’ve suddenly got this odd feeling. Do you mean that we’re near the end of the book? I just finished listening to episode 21 this morning and I”m not ready for it to be over… what an odd feeling.

  9. delbert says:

@dick: I believe that the total will be 30. So, 21 is much closer than 15. ;)
    =

  10. Nate says:

Yup. 30 is the magic number .. 22 will release today, one way or another.

Annie, I haven’t cut significant content. My beta readers pretty much agree that the story is much tighter now. I *may* have a short story from that material…maybe two. But really? I don’t do short stories. I don’t read them. I occasionally listen to them. Writing them takes a skill set that’s different from writing novels.

  11. Annie says:

It was just a thought. Just keep doing what you do so well.

  12. Paul L says:

    You… are… good…

  13. Nate says:

thanks paul. fancy meetin’ you here :)

  14. Art says:

Ah, Nate. While I am more than excited to get the new episodes, I am also dreading reaching the end of the Trader’s Tales. The story of Ishmael has truly been a great adventure. The thought of the empty void when he is gone is disheartening. I was hoping you would take a page from Robert Jordan or Terry Goodkind and publish a never ending plethora of Trader’s Tales. But, so be it. Thanks for a most enjoyable ride.

  15. Nate says:

there may be more Ishmael stories. just not part of the Share series.

  16. Art says:

That is good news. I look forward to them with great anticipation.

  17. Samantha says:

I’m sad to see PB has been down all day! Thanks for posting these. :)

  18. Ben says:

Donation made to the podiobooks cause -Thanks for posting these in the mean time!

Also – Ten Volt? I’ve always liked, but never really wondered, about the planet and system names. But I’ve been trying to figure this one out for the last few days. Any hints?

  19. Nate says:

    @ben They went metric.

  20. Walt says:

Thanks, nice to have this to listen to on my commute!

  21. Jeffery says:

@Nate Thanks for episode 22. With podiobooks down until friday, will you be posting on your site, or are we going to have to wait. Praying for the former, thanks again.

  22. Nate says:

I’ll post here until podiobooks comes back up.

  23. david says:

I think we all can agree, “Never send a bodyguard in for engineer’s work.”

Thanks for keeping us updated, Nate.

  24. Ada Kerman says:

@memline I believe the engineer will make it back to Diurnia before getting fired and then Greta will show up when Ish posts an engineer vacancy. She is my favorite romantic interest.

  25. Adam says:

Hiya all:-) just wondering if anyone knows how i can get episode 17,18 lol:-) podio broke when i was on episode 8 of owners share:-) but managed to keep pressing f5 while i was doing university work and every hour plus it works for a few mins:-) but this has now stopped working:-( Amazinf series though;-) going back through all of them once the server is back up;-) so anyone know how i can listen to the 2 episodes i am so desperate to listen to:-)

  26. Nate says:

I’ve added a page under “Get the Books” with piped feeds for all the titles, including Owner’s Share up to episode 21. You should be able to click on them and grab whatever you need for now.

  27. Evo Terra says:

Smart idea getting the episodes out on a different feed, Nate. I’m happy to announce that yes, we are back up and running. I’ve got all the missing episodes loaded and we’re back on a breakneck pace to finish up Owner’s Share.

Since it was brought up in this thread and others: Yes, it was the rabid Lowellians that crashed the server and necessitated the upgrade. The evidence is quite, quite clear. But to be fair, it was more of a straw that broke the camel’s back, as the server had been sluggish for a while. The launch of Owner’s Share was the nail in the coffin.

But it’s screaming along now! Thanks to those of you who donated. We’ve got the new box paid for for many moons to come. Now… have you donated to Nathan lately? No? Hrm…
