Owner’s Share: Episode 24

I’m not ignoring you in the comment threads. I’m just trying to get these things done…

Thank you to everybody who’s been so generous to me and to podiobooks. Remember that you can also help us with reviews and ratings on iTunes (eh, may wanna wait until the host gets back) and Amazon.

  1. Michael McCarthy says:

Anybody know whether we should expect Ep. 25 tonight?

  2. Memline says:

The suspense is killing me, but in a good way. Anticipation is a good thing and waiting is good for the soul. It build discipline, etc, etc, etc. OK, guys, the suspense is killing me. Biting fingernails. Actually, I know where I want this to go, but that Nate is a cagey fellow. Don’t trust him a bit, except to do something fun and interesting and twisty. You go Nate!

  3. Kenn Mackintosh says:

The sad part is I was home today and downloaded 24 when it came out, and tried to hold off listening until bedtime…. Well no luck with that!! Now it’s bedtime and I have nothing to listen to, unless I listen to 24 for the third time! That’s right already listen twice… pretty sad huh.
Come on Sar, pulling that maybe 25 may come up in the next hour for those of us on the WestCoast…. All kidding aside Nate, thank you for all your hard work on getting these out as fast as you have been!

  4. Lars E says:

makes me sad to think its only 5 more episodes left but perhaps Nate have a treat? (10 other Ish books lol ) just kidding.I am loving it though.

  5. Jamey says:

@McCarthy – I’d have to say no. I mean, jeesh, people, the man has a wife, kids, and a life!

  6. The Grey Wolf says:

I must say, Owner’s Share is shaping up to be the best of the Ish books. I will be sad to see the end of the Ish story arc, but all good things must come to an end. Who knows what’s around the bend, maybe another Clipper series, maybe something totally different? I have listened to the first five books more times than I care to count and until I know them more or less by heart lol. I can see Owner’s Share going the same way.

That said, Nate, all my best to you and your family, and keep up the work, I put you up there with Niven as far as story quality, and with Clarke keeping people on their toes wondering about the next plot twist.

  7. Lars E says:

    whats life? lol

  8. Nate says:

    Sorry, Crew.

I had Elder Daughter performing in the All-City Honor Band concert tonight and I lost a few hours makin’ points with my kids. If you’re waiting for 25 tonight, don’t. Best I can do is “in the morning sometime” … and I’m hoping my RL appointments don’t chew up too much time.

  9. Jamey says:

All I can say is – don’t burn yourself out! Pace yourself, so that in the long run, we can get a *LOT* more books out of you! After all, there’s Cape Grace to think of, and at least one, maybe two more Tanyth Fairport books, and who knows what’s after that? Police procedural? Sappy romance? (Oh, wait, that’s Owner’s Share)…

  10. Michael McCarthy says:

It’s 01:13 am where I live and that makes it late everywhere in the U.S. Whats that say about the devotion to this story that we’re just waiting around for Nate to put out an episode or tell us to go home? It IS an addiction! Good thing we have a support group.

  11. Jamming says:

@ Jamey – Inspector Ishmael Wong of the Orbital Inspectorate working for the CPJCT. When Ish retires and turns over his ship to his eldest son, someone is hunting down people the Inspector knows and it turns out they have been pillaged. Only one person cold be responsible for this, a man named Mister Pall and his Parrot Tootles. Will the Inspector find the Pirate Pall before he pillage’s again.

  12. Don Devlin says:

Not since Anne McCaffrey has an author evoked such sweet and savory images of the local eateries. Thank you. Just donated to the site and considering recording my own stories.

  13. Dave says:

Podiobooks is back up, Nate have anything for there feed :)

  14. Jason says:

Every time I listen to an Ish story I get hungry, a hankerin’ for some cheese or eggs.

Speculation time – Ish keeps going on about elephant repellent, so we’re either going to see a situation come up where a bodyguard is really needed or Ish is finally going to put a kabash on the whole thing and take that duty away from Miss Arellone. I think we’ll see they are needed. We’ve had 3 people get jumped in previous stories, without anywhere near the kind on money that Ish now has. (Pip, William Pall, & Schubert?)

  15. Samantha says:

The “Gerards”? Hah! I see what you did there! :D

  16. Roz says:

Great to see podiobooks is back. Should we check there (every half hour? :-) ) for 25 or will it appear here 1st? Of course I’ll do a proper QC version download when it’s clear all is stable – just want to avoid breaking any more servers with a crew DNS attack!
@Nate, if you’re busy with family -GREAT- we’re not (well, I’m not) trying to rush you – just want my fix when the man has it ready…. (cue Lou Reed /Velvets in background)
    THANKS again

  17. Fred says:

Thank you for feeding my addition which podiobooks was down. However, it only made me more anxious for 25. What is going to happen to the Engineer? Can we please get Chief Gerhardt back? She will take care of the ship and possibly ish.

  18. I want to tell you how much I have so far enjoyed this entire series of books. Keep those episodes coming.

  19. Nate says:

    Glad you’re enjoying them, Tim.

It’s been a lot of fun doing them.

  20. Tim R says:

I am proof that Amazon/Kindle recommendations are your friend. I started Quarter Share on a whim based on recommended reading for me in late Dec. I breezed through it and Half Share as ebooks and was very disappointed that my ebook journey had ended while knowing that more books were a part of the series. Therefore, I was very pleasantly surprised to find they existed as podcasts via iTunes. I have been a happy listener ever since. Looking forward to more but disappointed that my journey with Ismail may be coming to conclusion.

Excellent work Nate and several people I have told about these books are now addicted to Ismail’s coming of age travels through the Big Dark.

  21. Corky says:

Im so addicted to the Trader Tales! Does Owner Share have to be the end of trader series?

  22. Alanfromtheuk says:

I’ve run right through the book so far in the last two days and I’m starting to wish I didn’t have to wait for the rest. The only, slight, problem I have is that the release dates that have come up when I’ve downloaded them in iTunes means they’re all out of order. It’s not spoiled my enjoyment at all, I just have had to remember that when one is finishing I have to be ready to start the new one. It shouldn’t be a problem for me going forwards, but for anyone picking it up in future it might be an annoyance.

I don’t know what I’ll do when Owner’s share finishes, maybe I’ll start over again from the start. It’ll seem strange not to have any new stories of Ishmael Wang to look forwards to. Well, other than the print versions that is.

  23. Steve W. says:

Thanks for these stories Nate. I have really enjoyed them.
I am confused in this episode about the alarms. I could not tell if Ish did more than diagnose the problem. Did he actually fix them all?

  24. Nate says:

@steve – yes. he fixed them.

@calum – well, not *break* but maybe test a bit.
