Half Share Hard Covers Status Report

I’m getting about four or five questions a day about the limited edition hardcovers. This is what I know:

There will be 250 of them.

They are not available yet. I don’t know when they will be available because the printer can’t seem to deliver a galley proof that actually has MY book correctly positioned between the covers.

No, there’s no way to preorder them. I know that’s not the answer you want. It’s the only answer I got. We don’t want to take money and commit to an order until we can be sure you’re going to get the book.

They won’t sell out that fast if the Quarter Share sales are any indication.

When we get them, I’ll put up a notice here and email the group list.

Hi nate. Still no sign of half share in paperback on amazon.co.UK any idea when it will be available?

  2. Sean says:

By the emphasis on ‘MY’ book, I presume that at least one galley proof had someone elses book inside the HS cover…? Anything good? Juicy? Racy? :)

  3. Nate says:

Lemme check, Malcolm. I suspect the issue may be a matter of foreign rights clearance. You may need to bite the bullet and order it from Ridan direct. There’s actually quite a price reduction that ‘ll help offset some of the shipping costs and I can even autograph it for ya. :)

  4. Nate says:

Sean, I didn’t see it. Apparently they included folios (page bundles) from other books and had a mis alignment with the cutters so that pages were printed with the gutter down the middle of the page instead of in the spine. For an automated process, it was VERY weird but I’m hoping Ridan got that cleared up.

  5. Malcolm says:

Not to worry nate. I’m sure it’ll appear soon, i was hoping to have it before next Friday when I’ll be heading off on my hols to Spain but i’ve just downloaded the ebook to see me by till it does appear :-)

  6. Geoff says:

Hi Nate, Thanks for all the work you’ve put in. Listened to all of owners share and loved it. On an aside any news on EPUB sources other than through ridan. I just checked smashwords and it isn’t there yet.

  7. Nate says:

I’ll check, Geoff. I’m not sure where we are on that front.

  8. Alex says:

Thanks for the update. How is the author business going for you personally. I hope that it has picked up to be worth it as you full-time work, and I think I know how hard it is for authors to get to that milestone.

  9. Alex says:

    @Nate

Sorry if this is not the right place for this question, but I ordered the ePub versions of Quarter and Half share direct from Ridan a couple of nights ago and I am a little confused about the process. I have received my emailed receipt within minutes but no information on how to download or how I am to get delivery of the ePub versions. I am probably missing something obvious, but I haven’t gotten a response from Ridan yet so I thought I would ask you since I will be traveling next week and thought I would read them while leaving my hard back copies safely at home.

    Thank You for your time.

  10. Nate says:

I’m not sure how it works, but I’ve forwarded your request to the office. It’s about all I can do for now.

  11. John M says:

    @Alex
They will email the files to you. On my Half Share order it took almost a week because they were backed up. Not sure of the turn around time now, I ordered it a few days after it went live.

  12. Alex says:

Thanks everyone. I’ll try to be patient!

  13. Ratz says:

Also wondering we iBook store version will show up, my bad iSight prefers that book reader over the kindle app..

  14. Nate says:

I’ll ask Ridan tomorrow, Ratz. I don’t know where those other file formats are at the moment.

  15. Richard says:

@Nate – We’re going to have to upgrade you. Right now you’re just an author, and your editor gets to change things on you. We’re going to upgrade you to “keeper of the folklore”. That should give you some more clout with the editors.

  16. Alan says:

I am from Canada and cannot find Half Share in hard copy or in epub format (preferably). They are available in the US from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
Quarter Share is however readily available in both formats in Canada. Do you know when the Canadian release will occur?

  17. Nate says:

Order them thru Ridan’s website and we’ll send them to you. I’ll ask Ridan about release there but that’s a part of the biz I don’t usually see much of.

  18. Joel says:

Nate is there any news on the availability of the Half Share collector’s edition hardbacks.

  19. Nate says:

The last word I got from Ridan is that they’re still having problems with the galley proofs out of Lulu.

We may have to change printers, I don’t know. It’s darn odd.

  20. Sean says:

    Hi, Nate. Any updates? Thanks.

  21. Nate says:

Robin was checking on Monday but I haven’t heard back yet

  22. Ollie says:

    Hi Nate,
I know you are doing all you can to get the Hard Cover of Half Share to us all, but my wife’s birthday is on the 10th April and I would love to be able to show her that it she has a copy ordered.
    Thanks.
    Ollie
    P.S.
As we are in New Zealand it will be the 9th in the USA when it’s the 10th here.
