Captain’s Share: Update

The book is shaping up nicely. I was able to start really hammering it at the end of July and managed to do 40,000 words the first week of work. I had a very productive weekend and it’s almost at 60,000 now (58.5k) to be more accurate.

Unfortunately, I had a little medical issue that’s put a serious crimp in my writing. If you followed the tweets you probably know more than you really wanted to. At any rate, I’m more or less up-right today, having slept for a lot of the last 36 hours and gotten the meds going. I don’t expect to get back up to full steam for a few more days but I’m really happy with the way the book is going so far, and the first readers are being very positive.

I was hoping to have the first draft done this week, but with the medical issues, that might be pushed back a week. I’m still hoping for the first batch of episodes to drop at podiobooks by the end of the month…

Assuming I can find music, and get the cover done :)

Thanks for all your good wishes and keep your fingers crossed for smooth sailing for the rest of this voyage.

Glad to hear that you are still upright… I am glad to not have to deal with another Robert Jordan situation…

looking for another astronomical phenomena shot as a cover? (i wonder if there is a thread with pictures submitted for this that you could pick through or get inspiration from…….) :)

Oh, that’ll be easy. I get them from the Hubble site. Government docs are public domain so it’s a great place to get images. Just need to take a little break from writing to scoot over and find a galaxy picture I haven’t used yet.

Thanks for the update on you and your characters. There are so many things I want to know about the new book, I can’t wait to delve into the next chapter of Ish’s life. Who knows what you have in store for us to discover! Love your work.

    Hey Nate!

Great to hear it’s moving forward! Would you appreciate some help locating suitable music, or would you rather handle that yourself?

Hey Nate – keep up the good work, I just finished listening to Quarter Share, Half Share, Full Share and Double Share {again}! I love the universe you have created, and love that your characters are so real and identifiable. Looking forward to Captain’s Share, and the situations and people Ishmael will have to face. Cheers!

Make sure you are well first.

We cant wait for captains besides when you wait for the good things it makes all the better when they are done. Cookies for example that first one out of the oven is always the best.

26 official days of summer left. I’m getting pretty excited. I log on every morning and check my RSS feed reader, hoping to find a post titled “Captain’s Share” in Evo’s ‘Podiobooker’ blog. I hope all is going well.

  11. Hey Nathan. Sorry to hear about the health issue, glad you’re doing better. Thanks for the updates. I’m excited to hear Captain’s Share! I’ve listened to all the others, and it’s been a little while now, so I can’t wait to delve back into Ishmael’s world! Your podiobooks have been an inspiration for me to finish my first novel and eventually get it up on podiobooks.com Thanks for all the great stories! I think I’ll listen to South Coast again soon, I kind of breezed through it the first time, but I loved it! Quarter Share is still my favorite of all of them, do you get that much? Is there one book in the Share Series that seems to be a favorite? Thanks, and happy writing!

Really excited now for the next part of Ish’s story. I’m off backpacking New Zealand next month so every time I pass a computer with internet connection I will be checking for it on Podiobooks. Can’t wait to see where you go with the story. I’m so glade I didn’t find your books until recently, which sounds bad I know but bare with me, I couldn’t hardly the wait between books if I started listening when quarter share first came out. It was such an amazing experience listening to them all at once in the space of about a few weeks.
